The LS agent must like me. She emails me every week for the past two months with available loads out of OH. All above $3/mile. My problem is that I don't like to take loads until the day of or day before getting MT. So trying to plan to take one of them is hard.

I'm gonna guess you pull a flat and can haul anything?

For me if it isn't round with a hole in the middle I don't really care to mess with it.

Nope, van. But coil metal fits on a van but bids at flat rates.

You say that like it is a bad thing. It's frieght that pays VERY well.

Oh, yeah. Guys that laod me hate me. All for corners of each skid with cleats. Told half the drivers don't do anything and most only put one cleat. Told last guy I was a belt and suspender guy. When I was on the job, two back-ups.

I thought according to the regs you had to have something over them coils just like flats do?

Your right, freight is freight as long as it pays well.

I'm leased to Admiral Merchants as good as they come these days. Our FSC at this time is 30%. Not enough in my opinion. I live in Ohio, but i do not like to load and unload everyday. I'll admit i'm a little lazy. I do it at times but i prefer other work. I will say the iron FSC is usually higher than 30%. I usually load LTL's out of the Detroit area going most anywhere. Big $$$ lots of expences. I can rack up 500 miles putting a load together pretty easily. I mean that is before i even leave Detroit. You usually have 2 to 5 days in building a load. It may take the same amount of time to get where you are going. I'm pretty good at peddling freight so it usually comes off pretty fast. Then it starts over again, unless i'm somewhere that is a dead zone, then i deadhead. Basicly i'm running more miles and spending more time away from home for less money. The less money thing is due to $4plus fuel. I think a good deal of the time the fuel money and other monies are there it just doesn't make to us the owner/operator. It pizzes me off i'm leased to a Co. and they are more than happy to STEAL from me and they all do it today. Scum! And when you call them on it,they get indignet, you are labeled a trouble maker, you are not compliant. Admiral likes what i do,they just don't like me.

Are you saying they are paying you $.30/mile FSC?!? No wonder you are making less. I would say your opening sentence and closing sentences are contridicting each other.

This is a business. Admiral is making more money while you are making less. I am sure they put preasure on your rates when they saw rates and frieght down a couple of years ago.

With your skills and the area that you live in, as long as your record is clean, you should be making more money.

You have to have "friction mats". And the little cleated tabs qualified. The only potential issue was that the shipper makes them on site and doesn't bother stamping a rating on them. So without the stamping I would have to have two to be legal. I used four on the 2500 lb coils and six on the 3800 lb ones.

I will say this. You and I could pull the same load and get inspected at the same station and they would check your chains and never open my trailer. That always seemed odd to me.

That's not odd.......what they can't see doesn't concern most of them.

I have left freight sitting on the dock when the shipper either didn't have
cleats or mats for securement or worse tried to tell me they weren't necessary.
