If a guy buys a used rig, can he count on only loads (for the first year anyway)that include the box or flatbed..??How does that work with regards to the brokers..Do most O/O have their own box??

It might make it easier for awhile,no????
Roughly what could I expect to pay for insurance my first year..???
no background probs and age over 50...
I could probably take some loads that a lot of guys wont want , so with that in mind ,do you think I could stay busy if I wanted too... I only need to make about 25K after expenses a year...of course 40 would be nice..
The only way I am interested in driving for a living is driving for myself..
    thats the bottom line..

You are part of the problem. There is a very good reason some loads stay on the load boards for a long time...either they don't pay, or they are a PITA and the pay isn't worth the hassle. Either way, as long as those loads get moved by someone willing to "take some loads that a lot of guys won't want", the rates are going to stay in the gutter.

The good news is, since you're planning to run for fuel money, it won't be long before you're broke and filing for bankruptcy.

The bad news is, as soon as you're gone, some other bottom-feeder will be along to take your place.

Trucking is a business...especially when you drive for yourself. If the goal of going into business isn't to make money, what the hell is the point? If all you want to do is flush tens of thousands of dollars down the drain, there are plenty of other ways to do it....give it to charity or something.

And what happens when times are slow and you have been running on a week to week budget? And what happens when you want to retire and have no money?

Pedigreed is write on. You will become part of the problem.

And what I don't understand is if you only need say $45k and could make that in 7 months, why not do that and take 5 months off? Or run 10 months and be able to retire early. Or what ever you dream of doing. I can't believe that living week to week is what you are dreaming of.

But fine, another auction truck for me to buy cheap and stick someone in to make me more money.

When did being an independent truck driver stop being a part of achieving the American Dream?

Bud, don't come here asking for "advice" when all you're looking for is someone to pat you on your head for being so "smart".

These guys are serious business people who make their living every day doing this. Last thing needed is someone bipping and bopping about playing around when they apparently have not the basic understanding of what they're doing.
