And it is not like you can go into a story and buy these things. I had a load shift on me once and will never have that happen to me again. Swapped trailers years ago and didn't even think to check the load. From that point on I told my dispatcher that if I was swapping a load I would be breaking the seal and checking. Had to explain things to a few recievers but never a big issue.
Are yall making it???

Back in 02 I used to haul skidded steel out of Pennsylvania. With a reefer. Never had any issues but.....

Thats a big BUT.
Not talking about you just your statement

No, he didn't say $.30 per mile. He said 30%. Not every company that you lease to does things on a per mile basis like the large carriers do.
You just haven't been in the industry long enough to know that a FSC on a percentage of the rate basis had always been the standard. It hasn't been until the last five to ten years that all the mega carriers started changing the norm and doing this $.95 per mile plus xx cents per mile FSC. Before then almost all owner operators ran under a percentage contract of some sort. Most of the good O/O contracts are still structured that way. -
Thought it was a typo because all the drivers I know still on the plan you describe are making out like bandits. And come to think of it, I only know flatbedders still getting this. But your profit per mile will go down as fuel rises. But most I know have been seeing $.60-$.90/per mile over the past year or so. Only glitch that some have been seeing is when the law was passed regarding 100% pass thru to the person buying the fuel on DOD contracts one of the guys I know got forced into accepting lower rates on DOD loads. No big deal. Did maybe one or two a year. Now the company is bidding ever DOD shipping they can find.

Your right, but doesn't FMCSA require something over the coils regardless of trailer type? I was thinking they did and thought they passed a law some years ago pertaining to this.
-
Well I do have the trailer.

But according to the little green book I am good.
