New Century Transportation® was founded in July 2000 by Harry Muhlschlegel. Prior to forming New Century Mr. Muhlschlegel was founder, Chairman and CEO of a publicly traded, award winning LTL and Truckload firm that served the logistics needs of many Fortune 500 companies. After many years of industry leading performance, Mr. Muhlschlegel sold that business to the largest LTL Carrier Holding Company in the United States in 1999.
Taken from NCT website--of course they do not mention Jevic--since it is still a very big bone of contention w/YRC
The quick backstory is--back when some of the larger LTL's were running around buyimg out their smaller competitors(and Jevic was VERY PROFITABLE) Yellow Freight Systems(pre-yrc) bought Harry out--for a king's ransome! They had him sign a 5 year non-compete--now of course the story--rumor mill gets interesting--on how NCT came to be--ans since I know of a few O/O that were w/Jevic (and personal friends of Harry)--I tend to believe what they have told me--but don't feel it proper to mention publicly--so draw you're own conclusions~~~

that's it...Harry....and from my understanding, he was "employed" if we can call it that, at Yellow when he sold out, but got rooked after a while. supposedly he started New Century and called some of his "old customers"....letting them know he was back in business.
this is somewhat reminiscent of Mr. J.H. Cochran who started and owned Overnite, back in 1935. he sold out to the railroad for 1.5 BILLION dollars, and there too was a 5 year non-compete agreement. 5 years to the day (sometime in 1992-1993), Mr.Cochran started up Highway Express (HQ in Richmond, VA) and i started at the Mass terminal working for him (this was November of 1993). he (Mr. Cochran) called all his good ole boys at the cigarette companies and the distilleries in Ky, and said (basically) "hey boy's...I'm BAAAACK'...years later, Mr. Cochran sold Highway Express to Celadon...
strangely enough too, the railroad at one time put Overnite up for sale as they could NOT make a go of the company, plus all the union problems they were having. The railroad was (then) trying to sell Overnite for a mere $450 MILLION dollars, a huge loss for them..Mr.Cochran never really wanted Overnite back, which when i spoke to several "ole boys" down south, so many of them said they'd work for the old man again in a heart beat...and were surprise he did not want to buy back the company....... -
Ah, the things you miss being off the road. Wasn't aware Jevic went under.
-
Do Not confuse this--JEVIC--did NOT go under--they were purchased for a SH**LOAD of CASH--no stock trade etc--all folding green AMERICAN DOLLARS!! and alot of them--and yes they gave Harry some paid BS position on Yellow's board for a couple of years to sweeten the pot--and he did sign a non-compete--for x amount of years--well the NCT--and well LMAO
-
Okay - to clear up any confusion (I admit, there is a little on my part), does Jevic still exist as its own entity, or was it folded into YRC?
-
Jevic ceased to exist--when Yellow bought them--b4 the yellow--roadway takeover--
-
-
Much more to all that--why I said what I said about what happened--just got to read between the lines
and this was Jevic after it had been bought by Yellow....

This should clear it up a little--since in the begining of this post you were talking about Harry--and IMHO--Jevic was just a regional carrier owned by Yellow after 1999-- -
yellow bought out jevic and screwed the pooch just like every company they bought like preston and roadway were all very profitable company's till bill zollars and crew got their hands on them
