I'm with you brother! I have been running a $269 Champion 4000 watt gen. for over 4 years (note* on my 2ed generator now) Did a 17 month analysis of fuel savings and it worked out to about 4000 gal's of fuel saved. As my truck burns about a gal per hour and my generator runs 10 hours on 2 gals. $300 room A/C unit that sits nicely behind the pass seat with the window adapter that came with it and the vent tube I, never have to move it or drain it. A $19.99 adjustable from 1000 to 1500 watt heater that stays cool to the touch and has a saftey tip switch and an adjustable thermostat. Oh and it is way quieter then my truck running and a hell of a lot quieter then my Reefer running! Original cost of complete setup $588.99 plus tax!!!!!!! I'm out 3 to 4 weeks at a time and it runs 8 to 12 hours every day and then some..........My 1st generator still starts 1st pull and runs fine just needs a $7 set of brushes and a $20 Voltage regulator so I keep it for a spare. One other benefit I like about this set up over regular APU is the fact that everything is separate so, If one part of my system takes a dump I, only have to replace that part and no big expense

Ok, I know that my Carrier is considerd loud but I am next to some guy with an off brand and can hear it in my cab at a level that it is hard to hear while on the phone. And I have a 780 and hardely hear anything when shut up tight. Don't know how this guy sleeps with this thing.

What type of portable a/c unit did you get? Chaining it to the bumper is a great idea, where do you store the generator when driving?

WV had two guys shutdown until they got the units mounted. Said it was a state law or something. Gave a guy bolts from cat walk so he could get rolling.

This is one of those things that one guy will go ten years with no issues and the next guy will get hassled at every turn.
