which school is this? 112 hours in the truck sure sounds better then just the 32. Heck I probably need 32 just in backing![]()

Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, IL.
The director of this program also oversees the program at Sauk Valley College in Dixon and Waubonsee Community College in Plano so those cirriculum should be very similar.baseballcoach Thanks this. -
A college program is way to long a program from what I hear. I am getting close to starting a school and want it done asap , Wish I could get more reviews from Illinois drivers.

Elendil , Good Luck with the test!

The course was only 4 weeks long. 8 hours/day for 5 days/week. I'm not sure how you could get it much shorter and learn anything. The truth of the matter is I am only looking having to be with a TE for a week or 2 when I start work. Part of that is because of the good rep that the school has for turning out decent drivers who are have been trained on more than how to pass the CDL test.
Are there actually programs that do it in shorter than 4 weeks?
Thanks for the good wishes!baseballcoach Thanks this. -

I used Eagle, in conjunction with harper college. They are branching out to be in more community colleges.
The instructors were very friendly and helpful. But were just as concerned with training us as they were in getting students for the next class.
It was a 4 week course, 160 hours. THe first week was all book. We tested for the state permit on thursday. those that passed could get in the trucks on friday. Those that did not, were given more testing prep to go back to retest on friday afternoon.
I think we got maybe 10 hours on the road, per driver in the remaining 3 weeks. Maybe more, it just seemed like not that much compared to what others have posted.
We did many hours doing the four basic yard skills that we would be state tested on. Also many hours on pretrip.
But, they have a great reputation with companies. Every company approved applications from us. Subject to personal issues of course...

I tested yesterday and got my CDL with all endorsements. I had a total of 847 miles behind the wheel during my class, plus an additional 40 hours behind the wheel in the yard practicing the various backing maneuvers (straight, 45, 45 blind, etc...)
Because of the excellent course the final test was a breeze. I am actually to the point that if I don't yet the trailer back in one shot with the tractor lined up with the trailer (when allowable like 45's) it is rare and I am disappointed.
The DMV tester indicated that they are going to be changing the requirement in IL soon the the tractor will need to be in line with the trailer on the 45 back. The are also going to be counting grinds on the shifting. If it exceeds 5 "grinds" in the 14 mile road course the student will fail.
Anyway, I highly recommend the IVCC course as there is a lot of drive and yard time and the instructors actually go beyond just prepping you to pass the test. It cost a bit more, but was worth it.American-Trucker and baseballcoach Thank this.
