Central Refrigerated Truck Stop

Good deal.

 

That is the way I chose to do it. Lots of folks left before. I didn't want to have to squabble about the unpaid tuition, plus I took a week of vacation before I left.

 

Well Central called me today, offered .35 a mile on household, so that equals about .31 a mile for hub miles, $90.00 layover after 24 hrs. So if you unload on Fri. and are set to reload on Mon. you dont get layover. I asked about the miles, The guy on the phone who claimed to have been in trucking 15 yrs. said 2200 - 2800 miles a week and out 3 - 4 weeks, So i did the math and started laughing, then he told me he didnt like dealing with drivers with alot of experience because they demanded to much, So all i can say is he wants ppl. with little or no experience so they can bully you around. But thats my first hand experience and if the crybabies that work in thier office want to get on here and try and do dammage control, beware, i record all conversations. If you're not going to stay with your starter company, it's always best to fulfill your contract. In Central's case, stay your year, make sure schooling is paid for, and then quit. Turn in your truck at a terminal, clean, to ensure the best leaving scenario.

Central doesn't expect drivers to stay. They won't feel bad when you go. They will be annoyed if you drop the truck off in a lot somewhere, turn it in trashed, or act like a jerk when you leave. And that annoyance turns into stuff on your DAC.

A year with one company proves you're willing to stick it out, and not only see your contract through, but give the company a good shot. It looks good to other companies.

 

That's one thing I think is a serious shortcoming of Central. They hire rocks with lips. Not everyone is that way, but if you can pass the physical and agree to sign the contract for schooling, they'll take you. A lot of people have no idea what's going on in the truckign world, and think it's going to be a lot of fun, cruising down the highway, seeing the sites, and enjoying the drive. They don't think about 4 hour traffic jams, winter weather, industrial parks, backing in off the street, and truck stop food.

If Central screened a little more carefully, I think they'd get a crop of students who were better prepared for the job. I won't say they'd get better drivers, or higher quality folks, because there's some in every class already, but they'd have a lower dropout rate. I don't think it's on their list to accomplish though. Mass recruiting and keeping the ones who don't quit works for them.

I know in my class, by the end of the first year with Central, there were only 3 or 4 of us left. And when I went to work for them, they were hiring experienced drivers, and newbies with CDLs. So my class was all folks who already held a CDL, and about half had at least a year's experience, if not more. My co-driver and I are the only ones left now.

AT Kraft in Ontario, CA a JB Hunt driver tries to do a u turn with a container. It swings around and hits a Martin refer and... you can see the rest. The Central refer that is next to the Martin was the one that I was there to get... I was right behind the Hunt driver when he did it.
