There is no such thing as a "lien on my credit". Your credit has no value, therefore a "lien" would be fruitless.
Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
What he probably meant was there is a lien on his credit report.
It shows the IRS is after him for back taxes.
Then with that on your credit report it lowers your credit score and lenders tend to shy away from loaning you money..
These liens are filed in the county you live in.Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
A negative entry on the credit report yes. A lien has to have something of value to seize.
BTW, to all who think that there is an easy fix to IRS problems, there is not. You don't need to hire one of these so called fix it companies to submit what is known as a offer in compromise to the IRS. Fill out the forms yourself. Very few are approved, and even fewer now that the US Govt has spent itself into a tailspin.
Sorry you had to learn the hard way. With the advent of the internet, I am not sure how people get taken advantage of anymore. Google it, save yourself time and money... not to mention the headache. -
I 100% agree with the bold part of what I quoted. There is no need to hire a 3rd party to do what you can easily do yourself.
As to the second part, having witnessed countless numbers of OIC over the years, I can say that most times, the IRS will significantly reduce or outright eliminate the penalties and interest. You will rarely get out from under the actual tax owed in the first place though. The success rate is much higher when you meet with them face to face as opposed to doing it all online or via the mail.
