    Thanks Diesel Dave. Paying rent would be a nice offset instead of two hour commute to terminal

    I used to park my rig (company truck) at a local truck stop. The only one I know of that's actually in Columbus is the Wilson rd Pilot and that's always crowded and you may not find a spot. There's a Pilot and Flying J off of I-71 about 25 miles north of Columbus but that may be farther than you want to commute.
    Other than that I'd approach some local businesses that have truck parking. Pretty much any warehouse or large business that gets freight delivered via big trucks will have parking it's just finding one that will allow to do it at a reasonable cost.

    Bear in mind that if you are driving a Hazmat rig you cannot leave your rig unattended even if the tank is "empty". Big time nono.

    Well the first clue would be not living in Il:yes2557:

    If you live up north, you might want to make sure you have access to an electrical outlet + an extension cord so you can plug the truck in during the winter on your off-time.

    This is why I only work at companies near me and with terminals or yards. It's their truck, why would I want to babysit it on my off time?

    When I was in CDL school we had students from way out in the woods and far away podunk cities. When company recruiters came by I asked a lot of detailed questions my truck driving dad suggested I find out before I worked for a company. One of them was "is the truck parked at your yard when I am home or does it go with the driver?" Company recruiter ALWAYS sold taking the truck home as an awesome company benefit to the driver. Poor drivers from rural areas reacted to news they could take truck home like being told they were getting a puppy for Christmas.

    It's a lot cheaper and less hassle to buy a beater car, if you don't have a car than can stay at the company yard while you are OTR.

    One of my permanent pieces of advice to new drivers is always consider companies that have yards within easy dirving distance of your home. Do this so you have a place to park the truck and you don't waste much of your off time commuting back and forth. If you don't know to ask about this before your first job, you soon learn you should have.

    Another advantage to parking the truck at the company yard is that it can receive maintenance while you are relaxing at home instead of sitting around during the week babysitting the truck, and making no money, while it gets work during the week.

    So glad I live on a farm. Truck, trailer and any potential load is secured by the DEW line and redneck security system.

    DEW = dog early warming
    redneck security system is me and my father in law exercising our second amendment rights. Yes officer I live in the truck. He was in the truck so I shot him. I can't help it if his corpse fell out of the truck. Oh I shut the truck door to keep the bugs out.

    If you do end up paying for parking and your company doesnt reimburse it couldnt you claim it on your taxes?
