You are correct Johnday. Idle time allowance is 10%. If you average higher than that for the QUARTER you will not receive your bonus. SNI will not tell you to not idle when conditions permit. And for me Johnday 70-75 is pushing it
johnday Thanks this. -
I don't know what idle is for a tanker. For van, idle is 5% for 1st and 4th qtrs which isn't hard with a webasto heater. 2nd qtr is 15% and 3rd is 25%, which is hard in hot weather. But if you are a newbie, SNI will not pay you a bonus in your first year anyway. So go ahead and idle in your first year. No problem.

You have some good points. But there are some bad ones too. You have to work with chemicals. You have to live in a truck with a low ceiling. I like space. I need to be able to stand up. If I'm home every night I will sacrifice that. If I'm living in my truck, I won't.

Well I'm regional van and I'm in a flat top...and the majority of the taker trucks I see are the mid roof ones that have about 8" more roof than mine. I'm 6' tall and am getting a hump on my back from not being able to stand up in my truck lol. Makes you wonder who the hell is ordering the trucks. We all know Schneider loves to save a buck or two, and I'm sure they saved a lot of money buying the flat tops compared to the full condo sleepers. Unless you are doing a dedicated run where you have heavy loads (like beer or water runs) and need the weight savings, every truck should be a full size sleeper. Now that I think about it Schneider is one of the only "big" companies that has the flat top sleepers.

My posture isn't the best in the world either. I can't imagine stooping even more. I think the smaller trucks are slightly shorter as well as having less head room. Also, I use the top bunk for storage. I was in a midroof for a month once, and it was a living hell...didn't have enough space for my stuff and always felt claustrophobic.

the low ones are converted van tractors. not only did bulk take a bunch of drivers, but a bunch of equipment, too. i had one while my truck was in and out of the shop for a week and a half. as long as it took me to remember to duck in the short truck, it took me longer to remember i could stand straight up in my old one.

Is this a new idle policy? When I ran van western regional it was explained as 10% plain and simple

I'm surprised you're not in a condo. That can be a pain not being able to slide the fith wheel. I've seen more new mid-roof cascadias for van lately. I think they're mostly on dedicated accounts from what I've seen.
-
I'd be happy with the new mid roofs even, they have about an extra 6-8" of headroom, but not much more storage space. Plus a new cascadia would be nice compared to the bondo and dull orange rattle can paint job ridden century I have now lol. As for the non-sliding 5th wheel I haven't had any problems with it so far, I was even able to legally balance out a 46k pound load once, took me three times to scale it and I could only run with half tanks of fuel, but it was legit
