The answer you need has been posted already! Go to the pharmacy at home where his script was filled--
1--if they are a national chain--have them set it up with same company in an area he will go thru--pick it up--it is done everyday
2--call your Dr. tell situation--have them call in new script to local Wal-Mart--there pharmacies are national--then he can stop at any Wal-Mart he passes and pick it up!
There are enough real problems in this line of work--DO NOT turn the easy things into problems also--this is a very simple situation!

Okay, you guys aren't listening ?? :biggrin_25518:I can't have it called in to a pharmacy because his prescriptions are sent directly to his doctors office or I would have already had him pick them up somewhere!!! The doctor he sees DOES NOT call in prescriptions! :biggrin_25512:

i know one of my students has it done that way (sent to doc's office) a bit inconvenient. what does one do when the office is closed..???

i am sure you are aware now that maybe perhaps the meds should be filled at the local pharmacy, like CVS, Walgreen's, Wal-Mart...now that he is on the road, this is only ONE of the inconveniences that he will run into from now on.

best of luck. but this IS truck driving, and it just ain't a job of many conveniences which many of us take for granted.

Exactly. If he dosent have at least 6 months under his belt preferably a year he might as well just turn in his CDL because no employer will hire him for quitting in the 1st 6 months.

I'm glad I'm hearing about this though. I'm going to be going to work for Werner so i now know some of the things to expect. I dont have any problem not being home throughout the whole training though.

    Good luck to you

It sounds like the Doctor is giving him samples. They get them all the time and can give them out to patients to try. I see two major problems here. The samples come from the drug reps that visits the doctors and are not there for the patients. The doctor gave them to him because they are free but he needs to write you a script. The other problem I see or maybe not, is this doctor fully aware of his responsibilities with the DOT? Yes or No?

I'd sure take care of those situations ASAP if he wants to have a career in trucking. The only thing you could do now is go to the doctor and explain to him what has happen and see if he'll write you a script for him. Then you could set up a time at a walmart or whetever and get it filled.

This is a very good point and a very big problem. That's why when the driver is turned out he or she becomes nasty because of the lack of tools and knowledge. We need a Driver Trainer Endorsement on the CDL with test to provide good trainers and a governmental inspection agency to inspect the company's safety program. I also feel that a Driver Trainer should be paid more all the time and not just when with a student.

    Gayle Thanks this.

The key words to use on the quallcomm...and NOT i repeat NOT over the phone are...."without my medication I cannot drive safely." IF they balk, have him call the Safety Dept and ask about getting home to get his meds.

The QC is a public record.

This is the first helpful advice I've gotten, Thank you!

Had we known that he wouldn't be able to get home before his meds ran out we would have tried to have the refills done another way, they AREN'T samples, they are full months supply.

Please guys, we are new to this, but not stupid, sheesh...

i am not sure anyone is saying you or hubby is stupid...many of us are trying to help. but yes, maybe because many of us have done this so long, we take for granted what others should know.

i hope it all works out for you and him.
