They have some good trainers but really don't have work or available trucks for all the new recruits they hire every week. Their business model is based on using newbies for the tax incentives they get for training and using students as team drivers for trainee pay rates. After you test out they will try to get you to quit, or even make up a reason to terminate you. They have dozens more students lined up behind you when you leave.Imo you would be better off looking elsewhere.

I started my orientation with Werner on the 27th of last month. I had a really bad experience at CRST. I was sexually harassed by the terminal manager. They don't pay for orientation. It lasts too frickin long...4 days?
They charge for your physical and drug testing. And....they said they would charge us for our hotel stay after 30 days of employment! $300!
The only good thing I took away from them was that they paid for my TSA background check.
After being hired they dumped some of us in a scummy Rodeway Inn. I ended up contracting chicken pox. It either happened at their terminal or the ###### motel.
I quickly called Werner because I knew that their terminal was also in Fontana, Ca. I had already been pre-hired when I was in trucking school.
They pay for orientation and it lasts a blessed day and a half. And they send you to a nice hotel to wait for your trainer. They continue to pay you while you are waiting. The staff and other students were incredibly respectful and of a higher caliber.
I had to return home to recover from the pox but look forward to starting my trucking career with them. I don't expect to make a whole lot of money to begin with. But I do get a good feeling about them.
That has been my experience with them so far. Hope that helps.

I drove for werner for about a year and was a trainer for the last few months. As a new driver its just as good as any other company to get some experience... which its saying much. But I wouldnt recommend staying long term. Just when you get comfortable they leave you high and dry. Ive heard that from many former werner drivers who would chat me up at truck stops and didnt believe em till it happened to me. But you gotta start somewhere right? Just keep your head down, dont argue with your dispatcher and be safe. After 6-12 months find a better company. Also pray you never get red tagged at the Dallas terminal.... the shop guys there are rude as hell and will take days to fix even the smallest problem.

wow...i agree with all. LOL so funny, i am from Dallas so i know Dallas terminal, the guard will red tag your trailer on the way in. its so funny. Dallas is a bad place but once you get in a few times you learn what to do.
i did have a great trainer, that is the one thing i can say that is good. like they said, get in, keep your head low and do a year. get your papers and run....run very fast.
if you can make it 4 or 5 months without letting them get to you things will change a little but they will try to make you leave so just expect it. starting pay is not thay good unless you are going for Dollar General and they will not mess with you there unless you are messing up. see if you can get a company driver for a trainer, owner ops really do not like it if you mess up their ride.

The orientation is 2 days. You must do a certain amount of CBT's (Computer Based Training) courses before you go on a truck with a trainer. When you have free time be doing those CBT's. On the first day you may want to stay a little late at the terminal to finish some of the CBT's. This way you will get a good head start.

Make sure you bring all your work history, addresses, and phone numbers with you. You will be filling out a work application again. Make sure to include any time spans where you were unemployed or you will have to fill the job section out again.

Can't remember his name, but there is this old driver there who lead's the orientation. He can really get on your case, but he is actually quite funny.

Ask yourself this question;how can Werner hire 700-1000 students each week? Do they have that many new trucks available or are they losing (firing) that many drivers each week? We were so proud of our son and full of hope when he left for training 1/3/11. 3.5 months later he was terminated for hard braking (didn't lock them up) it just registered on the computer ;what a crock of BS Werner is. Any way lots of luck boys.
