I was told I had a job with W&S if I wanted it, out of Hickory terminal, they are waiting on my answer then all I have to do is go to 3 day orientation then they put me in a truck. I am curious to know from those who currently work there are you getting good miles? I was told I would get 2500+ miles every week and more if I ran hard, true? Seems many companies blow this smoke to get you suckered in then your lucky to get 2000 miles. I have been a tuck driver 21 years, been at my local driving job over 10 years making $56k+ a year and although where I am now is not being affected by the economy, they have taken on too many drivers and not enough loads to go around anymore. So looking to make a change but want a good company that will let me run hard and has the miles to offer. Was told I could make more than my $56k I make now first year there, opinions on this? Not going to just any company, need a good, solid company. Put a lot of hard work into where I am now and love being home daily and weekends but just cannot survive with the limited work now. Any opinion or advice from those working currently for W&S? How often do you get home, I was told every weekend?? Forced dispatch? Anything you could share I would greatly appreciate it.
A little info from those w/ W&S..

I am a new driver, so I am "below average" but I have managed over 2000 miles a week and so far been home every weekend for atleast a 34. I have only been driving for 3 weeks and this is my first company. I think once I get into a groove 2500 would be easily atainable.

Yes you should always be able to get atleast 2500 miles, i have run as many as 4100 or so. Allot of us average around 3000-3200 miles a week. Your miles will also depend on the type of loads that your running, if your dong trailer load stuff you can rack up the miles. But if your doing LTL 2500miles is a good week.
(note: you can make ALLOT more money while running LTL, then doing the trailer load stuff)
$56,000......it'll depend on what they start you at and how hard you run and how much LTL your doing, but yes quite possible. I'm on track to make $42,000 my first year here.
I stay out months at a time, but if your running OTR they ask us to stay out 3-4 weeks at a time, and then you get 1 day off for every 6 on the road, but they are FULL 24 hour days, you can take as many off at a time as you want, and they will never say no, or whatever they are very flexible and they WILL get you home on time 99% of the time.
Now if your running the East coast you can get home like MDub does, it may not be every weekend unless you can work yourself into a grove. I know some of our east coast guys do basicly the same runs every week. These guys will generally run less miles then us OTR guys but they make as much and sometimes more then we do, because of all the stop pay. $20/stop adds up quick.
W/S is a good company, are they perfect no. But they are in my opinion a very driver freindly company. here's why i say that:
1.Stand up Sleepers (no flat tops or midroofs)
2.Wabasto Bunk Heaters
3.Some trucks have APU's
4.We do NOT have an Idle policy nor will you ever hear anyone complain about you idleing.
5. We can have Inverters installed, no size limits
6. You can put a view cube or what ever you want in/on your truck, including mounting a flatscreen inside
7. Very flexible hometime
8. They allow riders
9. They allow pets
10. OTR, Dedicated, Local jobs
11. Van, Flatbed
12. Company, O/O
13. Solo's, 2 man teams, super solos, 3 man teams
14. They are pretty good at getting stuff fixed, and right away. You may have to sit at a shop for a day, but they will do it right away
15. No Autos well maybe 1 or 2
16. 99% Of the Office staff and so far for me 100% of the Upper office staff (as in non dispatchers) have been great very helpfull and freindly
17. Disptachers are good, they can try to get you where you want, they wont force you to run illegal or anything like that.
18. We have plenty of time to get our loads there most of time, if you need more time 99% of the time its no big deal, and if you can get there early most of our customers have no problem unloadeing early (some will not)
All in all I think its a good company to work for if it fits your needs give it a try.
And yes 3 day orientation, then you get a truck and run solo.

Hey AT,
Been reading your posts on here for a while and maybe I missed it, but just what do you guys haul anyway? -
Our Biggest thing is LTL Furniture Deliverys, then we do allot of beer, flour, and general freight. Basicly anything we can get to fit into a 53' Dry van. We also have a few Reefers and a Flatbed Devision.

I'm not staying on the east coast by choice. It's that or nothing everytime I'm in conover. I keep asking for south or west, they never have anything. Although the sometime is good, I need a change of scenery
