In my neck of the woods, they drive the mail jeeps. Plus, it's nice to have the paper copy at home, don't have to print it. I'm paying mercer more than I would like. They just might as well pay for mail and printed paper.

I did some flipping through them trucker's books, at the truck stop. I've found the company, out of Delaware. They pay the driver 100% of the settlement. However, they require the fee of about $450 a week - flat fee- for their services. I do not know how good is their fuel discount at the pump , is. Log book? They do not check it nor want it from you - I like the idea but, this may effect their safety record and cause the driver to be pulled in at the coop more often.
Don't get me wrong, Mercer has been good to me, for now. But, if I can make more money while being out of the house the same length of time, why not? I do not think that they have trailers to lease/buy.
I need to do the math on the figures. Ex: I've just got to va from ca and the fuel price per gallon was about $0.50-$.035 cheaper with mercer discount vs the fuel stations advertised price. But, I'm sure that this savings is due to the volume of fuel moved by the company. On the other hand, are the savings that are being offered by the company, are enough to stay in? -
I'm the adventurous type - Alaska any one?

Something like U.S. Freightways out of the Chicago area.

I guess I'm going back to CA tomorrow.

I hope I'll be busy like this until Christmas. Making 2 round trips from east coast to west coast in less than 2 weeks.

with comdata card you have to have someone else set up a acct for you to transfer money to a checking account, and it would take 7days or more. with tch you can set up all your transfer accounts yourself and have them ready to go in a day. i have at the moment 4 accounts i can transfer money to off my tch card. i couldnt that many with comdata.
and with scanning you get to keep the originals of the freight bills, if someone says they didnt get em , you still have the originals to resend , with trip pak all ya got is a copy of delivery receipt or copy of the original.
i would much rather scan from my truck, than hunt down a yellow box and have to stop at a pilot ( i would rather pee down my leg than stop at a pilot)
and magnum that deal for 450 a week isnt all it seems.
and for the guy who asked if it would help having your wife , check the load board. yes it will help, my wife finds me more loads than me or my coordinator does. but then i had my own authority for 16 years and she has looked for loads all of that time. -
In Cab Scanning.
Picked up the "recommended" scanner while I passed through Louisville the other day. Installed drivers and hooked it up, all worked fine. Took a load to go visit my moms for a late mothers day visit. Put truck in local shop I use for some PM work. Get to house and scanner no longer working. This is not a good day. After wasting hours working on it, I am confident the scanner itself is defective. So now two trips and $5k in loads remain not sent in.
I sure hope others don't have issues like this. What I was looking forward to using has now become a useless boat anchor. Now to see how the company store handles return/replacement. We all know the issues of trying to get something sent to us while we are on the road. Another reason to buy from Best Buy, or WalMart, when possible.
For those interested, the scanner manufacturer's website is docketport.com, and it is the model 467. It is just rebranded for TripPak, and actually sold at a much lower price. About 180 on their website, and 125 at Walmart and on Amazon. However if I'd paid 125 at WM I would also have a replacement in my hands now, and load pay on the way to the bank.
So much for day 1 of scanning.
