that is a decision that only you can make.......each has their pluses and minus's ........you have to figure out which will work out best for you.....obviously flatbedders wait around less than we do ( usually).but they have to throw tarps in all kinds of weather.....dry van doesn't usually get to dirty but you are limited on freight choices......reefer can run both dry and refrigerated freight so you have more options available to you

Melton requires 6 months of road experience. Then you will have to go back out with a trainer to lean securement....

TMC.... Well if he likes getting laughed at!

Well.... To put it in other terms...

You know the thought that goes thru your head when your pulling good reefer freight.... Then one day you go in to get a load & see CR England, Night, & Central backed into the dock?

Well.... Us flatbedders have the same thought when we see Maverick, McElroy, TMC, & Melton.

when you say you use the same trailer 95% of the time, does that mean you have to unload the goods inside the trailer?
If not, then you gotta wait inside your truck when some other warehouse guy unload it?

Ther's a lot more to it than the expense of refer fuel and wash outs. It's whole different world than most dry vanning if you get into the money runs. No offense to any of the big company drivers but the money won,t be much different than dry van, if your with a big one. Takes a long time to figure it out and you won't find a lot guys who will talk about with you. Giving away all the secrets is like giving away your job. If you can get a chicken hauler on a midnight flight to talk, much valuable information you will gain young skywalker.:biggrin_25525:

Hi, my time with a reefer unit, i get a run from Ia, hauling eggs in a 5 gallon buckets, then once i get too the bakerys, no loading docks, off the tail board onto the ground and then wheel it inside the backdoor, do this 7 times and 7 differnt stops all the city, which wasd la, califorina , wasnt no picnik , but i did it, didnt bother me , i like the getting a workout, then once empty, rinse it out and go too southern ,la, calfornia, in total i spent a day and racked up close too 89 miles, which you dont get payed for if your on the practical milage pay system, so i get too the cooler, thats what they call a produce house , get my insulated overalls out, go inside and count boxs of radishes going on the trl, a quater load, then go out the feilds and in the mud , cause they just waterd them, get a live load of lettuce, anthor quater load, then almost getting stuck, i head up too northern ca, too finsh my load , i got load of carrots, ya, i got enuff for salad, then as i close one door they fill the top with snow, now my problem how am i gonna weigh out this spread axel, so run down too cat scale and im barley legel, with half tank of fuel, so i run back too iowa that way, so all said and done i wasted three days getting loaded and waiting for the produce too be ready too be shipped, then once i get back here in iowa, there cheap wood slats crate broke in the middel and could opean only one door, but i still snow in there as i learn too run at night with a reefer , use less fuel that way too,so i get that figure out , then as halfway anthor crate breaks this time landed on me as i couldnt get away, floor too slippery, just bruise up my legg, ah the dangers of reefer work, but i like reefers myself and is true that you can go too any truckstop and get free food from as a last pallet ,that shipper turn down and need too get off the trl ,so they can reload, and yes a reefer can be used a dry box, i love it when i had a load tires, and park next too a guy and about 15 mins latters he pulling out cause he knew that reefer be running :biggrin_2559: i usda ta do that all time pull my empty reefer in and fire it up for the heck jus too annoying that loud mouth on the cb :biggrin_2559::violent1::smt117
