I am just wondering about everyones thoughts on exhaust sleeves on the 3406E's and C15's.
Are they necessary to use on a heavy hauler? Can running without them crack a head? Anyone had a sleeve come out on them?

with 3406E we had to pull sleeves out to change, C15 is relativelly not so old and they keep running, we use to change injectors only.... Yeah, it is CIS experience, but I sugest they run the same way in the USA and may be its life is longer becouse not so many cold starts in winter at below zero temperatures

I never put them back in.Cut the rivets and use the outside gasket.

we had one come out and ruin a turbo. i wondered the same thing tho since thats a pricey ordeal.

Just as BP said...
had a sleeve go through turbo on a 2WS. New turbo... -
Could Cat deny warranty on a head if you don't have them in it?
-
Possibly, but they didnt use them on the older engines, so I dont see why there would be that much difference.
-
I had one go through the turbo 4-5 years ago and ended worrying about it happening in another hole.....removed the sleeves. No problems since.

please educate me, lol what are the exhaust sleeves? are they a after thought , a sleeve to decrease the runner size in the exhaust?
