I gave two weeks notice when I left my dispatch job, that worked out fine. I also had a good number of drivers give two weeks notice and we let them run. Might as well keep those wheels turning so they can keep my paycheck coming. Truck don't make no money without a driver. Don't get me wrong, we had a guy with 82% idle that gave notice and we just accepted that, mainly because we weren't going to make any money either way.

I hear you on this one
-
True, In banking, if you were an officer and gave your notice, then you were out that day, although you were still paid for the 2 weeks as it was the companies decision to let you leave immediately. Pretty standard in banking.
No matter the job I was in, I would give 2 weeks notice. I've read some comments by people that say they would not give notice because if the company were to fire them, there would not be notice. I think this is a silly comment. When you give notice, you are leaving voluntarily(unless you have committed some yet to be discovered crime). When you are fired, there is usually a reason that you are being let go. And no, I'm not interested in stories about how your were fired "for no reason", for every real "story" like that, there are a 1000 people fired who had it coming. If you can't or won't see the difference, then you are sticking your head in the sand. -
come to think of it, I've had like 18 jobs in my life and I gave notice at 14 of them and 13 let me work my two weeks out. The only one that didn't was a landscaping company and pretty much all I did there was mow lawns. I could see the threat I posed to them, you know I was in control of that lawn mower and it was probably worth $200 bucks.

82% idle!!??
-
I would bet that since he gave his notice while at the Madison yard, that is why they said just clean your truck out. No recovery needed, bus terminal right there....no cost in timing it right in getting him to NLR or another terminal come the end of the 2 weeks time.
-
I agree! If he's idling 82% then what's dispatch doing? That truck isn't moving at all.

If he was quitting to go to work for Moore I could see them throwing him out on the spot. I've heard a lot of bitterness and unprofessional conduct from Maverick dealing with the competition.
Is it true that if you quit Maverick to drive for Moore you have no chance of rehire? That's the last one that I heard. -
That is a rumor that has its roots in a bit of truth...I know some of the details of it, but I ain't about to go into it on here (or anywhere else for that matter)...doesn't really matter anyway.
And notice...I said "a bit of truth"...as with any rumor, things get blown out of proportion.
If any of you have read my previous posts on glass hauling...maybe you'll understand...but here is a fact worth noting to drivers and companies alike...while the name of the company hauling glass has changed many times over the years, the drivers doing the hauling have remained the same...that should tell you something.
I'm not saying there aren't new guys...just that the old guys are still hauling glass same as they always did...the companies change, the drivers stay. Maverick and Schneider came into the glass industry as an "outsider" of sorts...Schneider hung on to all the "old guys" that they could, Maverick kept a few...now Moore has most of them.
Its a precarious position to be in for me...being a Maverick driver, with several friends and family members working for Moore (some in safety, some driving, some mechanics, and some loading trailers)...and just another one of many reasons I don't haul glass. I get a lot of pressure to go work for Moore...but I'm perfectly happy at Maverick
, and have no plans for leaving.
