    Hi,

I'm kind of starting this journal as a way to educate myself and others about all sorts of issues that effect Health, Fitness and Wellness...

Simple things, that maybe 'health nuts' have always known, that many of us haven't, or if we did, took good health for granted for far to many years...

So, I guess this journal, thread, will be like 'school' to myself, and possibly others, in that much will be shared, and explored in the realm of Health and Fitness...

First I'd like to begin with Vitimans...just a few...and what benefiscal effects they have on the body, may as well start in alphibetical order...

    1. Vitiman A...

Vitamin A helps maintain healthy skin, vision, teeth, skeletal and soft tissue, and mucus membranes.

'Retinal' is an active form of vitamin A found in animal liver, whole milk, and some fortified foods.

(Vitiman A mainly comes from animal sorces such as live, kidney, fish, cod, milk, however much of that is high in saturated fats)

However, 'Carotinoids' are dark colored dyes or pigments, found in brightly colored vegetibles, that turn into a form of vitamin A when injested...

    there are 500 known Carotinoids...

Beta-carotene being a more popular one..and is a antioxidant, antioxidants protects cells from damage caused by substances called 'free radicals'...
Free radicals are believed to contribute to certain chronic disease, and play a role in the ageing process...

(I beleive Cod oil is a sorce to...)

The best way to get a daily dose of Vitiman A is to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegtibles and fortified dairy products.

Anyways...there's a ton more you can learn about Vitamin A and the benefits, and or deficiances...

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002400.htm

And that will conclude this first post...

    Vitamin B complex...

Vitamin B complex consists of 8 water saluable vitamins...
I had no idea...I always thought there was just 1 vitamin B...

    There's..

    a. B1.Thiamine, aids in the catalysts in carbohydrate metabolism and helps synthesize nerve regulating substances.
Deficiancies can cause heart swelling, leg cramps..

    and muscular weakness.

Some foods rich in Thiamine are liver, heart and kidney meats, eggs, leafy green vegetables, nuts, berries, wheat germ, and enriched cereals

    b. B2 Riboflavin helps metabolize fats, carbohydrates, and respitorie protiens...
A dedeciency can result in skin lesions and light sensitivity.
Riboflavins are abundant in mushrooms, milk, meats green leafy vegetables, enriched cereals, pasta and bread.

    c. B3 Niacin (also known as vitamin P or PP)
Niacin helps release energy from nutrients. It can reduce cholesteral and prevent and treat arteriosclerosis.
Defeciencies in Niacin B3 can cause pellagra, a disease with symptoms that include easy sun burn, dirriahea, swollen tongue and irritability and mental confusion...:biggrin_25526:
Foods rich in Niacin are chicken, salmon, tuna, liver, dried nuts, dried peas, and dried beans and enriched cereals (whatever that means)...

    Ok, there's also B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12...

B12 assists in the function of the nervious system and in production of red blood cells...

B12 can only be found in animal sorces such as eggs, fish, meat, milk and liver.

Anyhow, I'll finish up with the other B complexes later...in the mean time feel free to read more about them on your own...as I just give very condenced overviews...

    Leg cramps...

After reading about how a defeciancy in vitamin B can result in leg cramps...it prompted me to do a bit of research...and here's what I found...

    1. Not drinking enough water...water is important in transfereing nutrients and minerals and other substances throughout the body.
Muscles need hydration, in order to function properly.

    2. Low levels of calcium, potasium and magnesium, although they can be found in many foods we eat, many foods loose their minerals when refined or processed...grains can loose up to 85%.

Calcium defeciancies is also responsible for muscle twitches and tremors while in bed...(And here I always thought it was do to demonic possesion...)

Anyways...another mineral easily depleated is potasium...which is vital to muscle activity...serving as an electrolyte and helping to balance body fluids within the body. It also plays an important factor in muscle control and muscle building...

It may be a coincidence, but I've had really good results taking fish oil (Omega 3).

I injured my right shoulder two years ago from drilling and using sledge hammers on steel safe openings. I began waking up in excruciating pain; it was honestly the most severe pain I've experience to date. I thought it may be a torn rotator cuff. The pain eventually got so severe I ended up going to the ER for an x-ray of my shoulder; x-rays were taken, nothing; I was prescribed and told to take up to 2400MG of ibuprofen a day (maximum allowed daily dosage).

I was given ninety, 800MG tablets of ibuprofen. A month and a half later the pain was still extremely severe and I didn't want to continue to take the maximum daily dose of ibuprofen, due to an increased stroke risk due to ibuprofen causes platelets to become "sticky".

I heard someone say they knew someone, a weightlifter, who took omega 3 fish oil for joint and tendon repair. I was aware of the supposed heart benefits, but never heard about fish oil being beneficial to joints and tendons.

To make a long story short - taking 2000MG's of fish oil a day - 3 days and the pain was entirely gone! I was utterly amazed!

The pain has never returned either.

I figured I'd share since I've had personal experience AND I am usually extremely skeptical of "gimmic" medications or remedies.

We here this word 'processed' food, thrown around quite a bit...but how many people actually know what that is, as applied to food items or the prepreation of food items?

Processed foods have been altered from their natural state, for safety reasons and for convience...

Examples of processed meats would be

    1. Hot dogs, sausage, boloni meat...(darn!)

    2. Milk is also a processed food...cause it's 'pasturized and homogenized...(hey watch it buddy)...

But not all processed foods are bad for you...like frozen vegetables, and or frozen fish, which allow for long storage before eating...

And the benefits of processed foods help to fight food born bacteria, and allows food to make it from origon to destination without spoiling...

The main set back of processed foods are the 'additives, like Red 40..:biggrin_25513:

I'm learning more about this additive or food coloring, and will do a post on it soon...

Food processing can also improove the life of some, who have allergies, and can't ingest certain raw food products or ingrediants...
Also, food processing can add vitimans and nutrients to an item...

Here are some processed foods below..

    I know, I know...like me your probablly saying 'heck, that's everything I eat'...:biggrin_25521:

I guess the main thing is to look at the ingrediants...make sure stuff like Red 40 isn't in it, or brominated vegitable oil, that's definatly a no no...

Mountain Dew contains Brominated oil...not good...here, read about it for yourself...The main ingriedent in BVO is a poison...

And among other things it's used as an additive for gasoline...

    http://fooddemocracy.wordpress.com/...xic-additive-in-many-sports-drinks-and-sodas/

Also...two terms we here a lot...but I doubt many know what they mean...

    1. Homonigized (milk)

Ok, in my own clumsy words...Homonigized milk is a process in which fat cells in milk are reduced in size, so that they don't 'float' on top...the way people use to like it...the milk is like squeezed through a nozzle, and the fat molecules are broken up...so that the milk is more 'mixed'...cause all milk is is a mixture of fat and water...and fat always floats on top...

But people use to actually prefer it like that, up until around the 1950's...people would judge the quality of milk by the layer of cream at the top...(boy how times have changed)...

    2. Pasturized (milk)

And Pasturized milk is simply milk that has been 'heated' to kill of bacteria...

Tired of being decieved by Coca-Cola and other soft drink makers...

And here I thought this stuff was actually good for you...

Once again...decieved...and instead you end up swallowing stuff that your body is better without...

Such as the whole crystaline Fructose sweetner thing...

Another thing about vitamins I found out...

Some vitamins are 'water saluable'...meaning they dissolve directly into your bloodstream...and can be absorbed through stomache in water...

Examples would be vitamins C, and B compounds...

Other vitimans are 'fat saluable'...meaning they can only be absorbed into your body through dietary fat...like meat or a full meal...

Examples of fat saluable vitimans are A, D, E, K...and dirivatives of.

In other words, if you take vitamins A, D, E, K...in pill form only or as added in a liquid drink...your body won't absorb it...

But I suppose it looks good on the labeling anyways...

Maybe this is to much for the average person to absorb...or even for me...

But water may become the only drink I bother with anymore...
I've learned so much over the last 2 days...and it just amazes me what we put in our bodies...

These companies look at profit over health...and their prematurely killing people as a result...causing poeple to get diabetes, strokes, Parkinsons, cancers...wow...

And I thought the FDA was suppose to protect us...I guess they can be bought and sold too...

    Other information of note...

When labels or packages say 'grams'...I'm clueless on what that means...in terms of both weight and size...

But each bottle of vitiman water contains 32.5 grams of crystaline fructose sugar. (like crack cocaine of sugar)...and that would be equivalant of 2 heaping table spoons of the substance..

Also...here's how much sugar is placed in soft drinks...

But in order for this to make sense...I suppose one has to do a study on 'sugar'...
And the good or bad effects it has on the health of living organs...

That's why it is important to take your daily multi vitamin with food. Your stomach acid will break down both the food and vitamin simultaneously and essentially "mix", creating vitamin enriched fat; which your body will absorb while it passes through the intestinal tract.

One of the things I like about being 'home'...is you can go out and buy fresh vegitables...or 'liver'...I know...'yuk'...but yes...I had some liver tonight...oh so good...liver and onions...

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/47245-beef-liver-nutrition-information/

For less than a Big Mac or chips at a truck stop...[IMG]

I look at convient stores totally different now...everythings packaged and processed...

The only good thing in there is water...

I've played with my health far to long...I'm lucky to still be slim and lean...but that doesn't mean heart is good...thin people can have heart attacks also...

But as I read on here, as drivers share how their bodies are breaking down...it just makes me want to be so much more careful about what I eat...

Anyways...goodnight...won't be back until Friday night sometime...
