No lol we pull a reefer. Someone asked about SD rates around Chicago that's why he posted that. We normally wouldn't consider going to WY but this guy called and offered a rate that couldn't be refused on 1/2 load of oil they really needed moved.

Don't write CHR off completely. If have to know how to work them and what office to stay away from. They are like any large brokerage. Two keys with CHR.

    1. Never pull anything cheap for them. They can see what you have done and will start low.

    2. Figure out the manager of the office. They are the ones that have to deal with all the problems when they happen. So if they see you are reliable they will be willing to pay the top range of what they can.

I have a regular load I haul for them of Bell Helmet liners. Light and pays $2.80/mile. But when I see it posted and I'm in the area (the load drops 30 miles from home) I will call and if manager is not available they will qoute me half of what I normally get. And tell me that he would never do my rate. Hey bonehead, look up my T#, pulled it 5x at the rate and not last minute cover stuff.

Larger offices you may have to deal with account manager. They still have to check on getting you the better rate but if it is their account it is a formality.

Landstar I will never call on loads on boards that are not in the LS system. Several agents have told me that once it hit the LS system it has to go based on LS formulas and the "off the books" loads are likely ones that under the table payments or working a better rate on another load is happening.

And with LS you need to understand that you have good and bad agents. When you get a bad agent (like the one I just dealt with) you need to bite your tounge. They can place notes in system that will keep good agents from working with you.

I will say that it is rare that when I get a call from a CHR desk jockey that I hear any rate that comes near what I would haul for.

Ya know... I'm starting to think your intention has been to be snarky. Why don't you come out and say what you've been hinting all along. You want so bad to tell me I haul cheap. Just say it. I don't give a #### about your opinion.
I'm sorry we aren't special enough to have a subscription to the elite load board like you and we only use the lowly ITS. I'm sorry I don't have a pocket full of make believe brokers who pay $10/mi. So you can turn your snotty nose up all you want and kiss my cheap freight hauling a s s.

So what load board do you use?

We have also had Transcore and it seemed to be bloated with more cheap stuff and cost more to boot. We also got suckered into the RTF board, wasn't a total bust we made money from it but we got ignored a lot to. Guess we want to much money.

Got sucked into RTF as well. Sounded and looked good but learned that many of the loads on this board the posters are not looking at or responding to what they have posted. Stuff like regular loads that they posted last year and just leave. Still have not taken a load from them the board yet.

ITS and the OOIDA version of Transcore are what I use as pay for boards. Also use the LS system and like that because I can see the rate before I call in it.

I like direct business but reality is reality. Hard to be a solo O/O get these types accounts and service them unless it is regular and dedicated. If I had 4-5 trucks I could get a bunch of accounts.

I have said this before. Being and Independent O/O is three jobs. 1. Driver, 2. Business man and 3. Salesman. It amazes me the number of O/O that don't understand that talking with a broker is about building relationships and negotiating.
