Is it a good idea to get one? I can't see myself talking on it too much.
-
Well you cant go over 75 or you get fired and you can easily go 70 down the moutains. so yes its a good idea to know where the bears are at even though the truck only goes 63. Not many use the cb as much as they use to but its still not a bad idea.
-
when i was OTR some of the companies you deliver or pick up at will give you a dock assignment via cb. Signs at the gate will say tune to CH 18 etc. Get one, doesn't have to be fancy, just good enough to get ya by.

We've only ever had a handful of deliveries like that, but they've all been to 1 jobsite in Manhattan/Bronx where they are putting in a new bridge. They started unloading at 11pm and sometimes you had to be in there 24 hours before hand. Not really a bad deal..subway passes are cheap for the day

Roehl picks up and delivers to a few places like that so unless you want to rely on another driver in line with you to tell you when your door is available, you'll want to get one. If you ever have to do an OD load with an escort, you'll need one too.
-
CB is needed, alot od customers say go to channel 3 and talk to shipping, or there is a slow down upfront, ask whats up or sit there quietly wondering whats up ahead
-
I don't know much about them. Whats the best brand to get? Do you get your own antenna or does the truck have one that you plug in to? Do you install it yourself or does Roehl have to do it? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm a cb newbie.Last edited: May 23, 2011
