Marten Transport is and never will be the same company that you all remember them to be,alot has changed at Marten...new policy/rules regulations and more ways to be fired, and a lack of respect for the drivers, miles and pay are constantly being cut, when you work for a company that has every threat/reasons hung over your head to fire you,why would you wanna work with that much pressure playing on your mind..home time, lol what a joke.

So i left the house on Dec26th, loaded north the bay area, 6 days later found myslef in Conn. Reloaded the next am, and come Monday night will find myself in Las Vegas for a Tuesday am del.
Just off the top of my head, thats close to 6,000 miles in two weeks.
or for the non math types, 3,000 per week.
I won't lie, there have been a couple slow weeks, do to mis communication between the office and i. But what comapny doesn't have that problem.
On ave, they like to give us 1,800 per LOAD. not per week, as many other companys do.
New York City is not forced upon you. They will ask , hey do you do nyc? and you can politly refuse, with no repercussion. ie: miles drop
no forced perdeim, no sliding payscale, no having to aask for a 'po' to get paid back on what you spend out of your pocket.
6 dispatchers, 2 others helping them. People in the Safety dept, who actully have been drivers. And will show you old logs to prove they have drove.
No hazmat. You don;t even have to have that when applying.
No locked doors,(other than at night ) no bullet proof windows.
A shop that doesn't take days to service your truck. Most times your preplanned, even before it's out of the shop. Once a month full on truck / trailer wash at the streakin beacon. Wash outs any time, scale any load and get paid back.
A person to go to in the office if your having a problem with something.
The terminal, has four single person bedrooms, clean bedding provided drivers can reserve when they know they are going to be there over night. Nice clean showers.. towals provided. Cleaned every day (evening) Comfortable drivers lounge wih two 'net ready computers with a printer. You may be the only truck in there . If there are others, you really don;t hear a ######## session.
A car to borrow to run into town, while your there, we are loated 10 miles west of Fargo.
All Cascada fleet for company drivers, with Carrier APU's .You have toi supply your own inverter.
Attainable fuel milege bounus, safety bounus, milege bounus. Annaversary miles bounus.
EZ/PREPASS .
Advaces, $100. loaded on your card on Tue/ sat.
Direct deposit. Witht he choice of getting paid weekly or every two weeks.
They have deadheaded me a few time from Vegas, to my home in Northern Nevada, just over 400 miles, for home time.
Home time 1 day off for every week out. Some time you might be able to get an extra day or two. Just ask.
If your under a load and can manage the time , and your passing by the house with in 50 miles, they will let you divert for the night. Just ask.
Will reroute you around weather. Have chains, but i have yet to been told to chain up and go.
they don't keep you on the east coast for days at a time. The longest i have spent there was a day and a half, the shortest was 18 hrs.
Set dispatchers for what ever area your in.
no night dispatch bugging youin the middle of the night , unless it's an emergency. We have a 'on call' person, we call in after hrs, for things. ie: break down/ tchecks.
On elogs. But what makes the differance here kids, Dispatchers have to read your hours before they plan you on a load. So they know you can make your appointments. Yes some time they can be tight, and your welcome to tell them that, and they will work with you accordingly.
Have had only 2, 34 hr resets since the middle of May, and they happened because of miscommunication.
They prefer to keep you running 7 days a week.
Vacations taken anytime of the year, no lame ### excuse, no vacations during holidays, because we have lost to many custmers. ( my last company just started that rule)
Few drop n hook locations, only have 400 trailers and 325 tractors. Sometime you may have 3 pickups, and 5 drops.
The down falls if you want to call it that.
They still use Trip pak envelopes to send paperwork in. Cut of time to get paid each friday is Monday at 0900, thats when it has to be there. Yes you can Fedex over night, but you pay for it. Every tiem i go to the home office, i suggest they go with the scanning solutions. Figur, if i and the other 324 drivers bug them enough they may go with it. lol
Pay is kind of low, but at least they dont screw you with any perdeim, or sliding Pay scale.
And as i said before once in awhile lack of or miss communication.
They do include a prefered routing with each load. Sometimes you may be able to ask to change it up a bit.
Fuel any Pilot Flying j. And can get 50 gallons or reefer fuel any where Tcheck is accepted.
We are forced to swap loads out, since we are a small operation. I've lost a great load back in October, from CA, to Vermont, cause a driver had to get home to NY state. I go tthe short end of that deal. But most times that isn;t the case. They do try the hardest to make sure you get the miles you lost.
Turn over is way low. There may be 1-2 weeks a month, they don't have any new drivers starting. My oreintation had 5 new hires. Other classes may be a bit smaller. Need at least 1 year otr exp.
