I mean NO disrespect to your friend, especially that he's now departed and his wife is a widow... but being 8k overweight, 11% grade, ice and snow, and a bad clutch, when it could have been repaired... it was just an accident waiting to happen. I hope we can all learn from this man's multiple mistakes.

There should be a way to file an annonymous complaint! I've heard of some drivers pulling into a DOT Scale house and reporting the defects.

What does that mean, "no dept on tire?" Federal law is clear, "The driver shall be satisfied the vehicle is in safe operating condition," not the mechanic, not your boss, but YOU. It also says, "The driver shall be satisfied all parts and accessories included but not limited to air brakes, steering, suspension, etc. Be in good operating condition." It's even illegal for them to tell you to drive it.

If you know the law, why and what are you asking? If you did, you'd have written it up. If they didn't fix it, refuse it. If they punish, fire you or send you home, that's considered a reprisal. You have rights, there is alot of stuff you can do but more than likely you will be fired. You need to have proof though so when you file a complaint or get legal representation, you have a leg to stand on.
