Take it easy guy when i say that it was not my fault I am not saying that I did not speed. And when i say that I have the skills to drive at high speed I am not saying that it makes it ok in any manner. I am saying that one of the tickets was very plain and simple my fault with no way of saying other wise I knew the limit and took the chance by breaking it. Two of the tickets was out of my own ignorance and would only have been avoidable by being more attentive to my surroundings which I have trained myself to be. My attitude has changed alot in the last year and As stated before I have more respect for the truck and other people on the road than to try something that stupid in an 80,00 pound vehicle. Even when doing those things in my car I never did it around trucks or with any kind of traffic on the road. The only life I am willing to risk is my own and noone elses. In the last 4-8 Months I don't risk my own either. I understand where you are coming from and am not attempting to disrespect you but just take it easy and don't jump to conclusions.

Good luck man. I think you are in for some really huge surprises.

The insurance companies will look at you as young and dumb until you turn 25. Get married and that might improve things too. Have good credit and that will improve things. Also note that private car insurance is absurdly low in the "there's a law for that" state and commercial insurance is a totally different game. But you have 3 recent violations and the only thing that will make that less of a problem is 3 years clean after the last one. Period. Been there, done that, wrote the book on it 25+ years ago. You're not the first ever habitual violator and not special either.
All the rationalizations you're throwing out there don't mean a thing. Call and get some insurance quotes before you post again. Seriously.
PS: with 3 recent violations, Progressive probably won't even take you on. -

I just got off the phone with progressive and got a quote for 1M general liability with 100K cargo insurance and no milage limits for Texas and was completely honest with my driving record quote is as follows based on truck value of 10k (the truck I am looking at will be purchased for 7k gave range to agent of 7-10k);
13,262/year
payments come to 1,327X10 if by mail, and 1,103X11 if payed online as i suspect it will be.
Agent told me they will not turn anyone away based on driving record unless it is things like DUI and then they pretty much have to. I will simply have to pay for my mistakes in the form of higher premiums untill the tickets fall off my record in 2 1/4- 2 3/4 years. Considering my estimates in my CPM and CPD calculations were done allocating anywhere from 2-3k for insurance this is very good news. -
Auto Liability $1 million
Cargo 100k
The above are required to have active authority. The below are just a #### good idea to have for peace of mind.
General Liability $1 million
Physical damage / bobtail -
1103/month for ins. # texas rates, or did you imply you can go outside of the state ?

bigray: I am not sure what you are asking if you are asking did I get a mile limit such as the 500 mile one that i hear about no that is interstate no limit. If you are refering to the fact that my current location is california and i got texas rates that is because I will be moving back to texas and basing the buisness from there. -
The reason everyone keeps bringing up the 500 mile radius is:
Those of us, exchanging info on this forum, who have dings in our record or no recent experience wishing to start with our own authority know that Progressive is almost the only option. We have seen quotes from $7,000. to $12,000. depending on location and circumstances. We have all been given radius restictions from Progressive of 500 - 700 mile radius depending on geographic location. This is only one of the many factors that should be weighed.
I am 54 with nothing on my driving record for 4 years and never any drug or alcohol related offences. No driving experience in past 10 years. I have had a CDL all my life and have owned two trucks. I finally found a company that would write me without the 500 mile radius for about $7000.00. This is about what Progressive wants and they are looking into uping it to 700 miles (I understand they are testing a larger radius).
If you are buying equipment for the amount you posted I hope you keep it close to home.
If you are determined to do this with no driving experience, you will cut your chances of success way down. If this is what you are determined to do, at least spend some time reading what is available here and weighing it with your head and not your heart. Then if you are real lucky and learn fast you might survive. With a little luck, fast learning and hard work you might be able to get a better truck in a year or two.
I would suggest if you are geting into trucking cause you think:
1) your wife will run with you,
2) you can make good money,
3) you plan to build a fleet, or
4) you think your new position is about driving
Then save yourself money and heartache and run like ****. It is possible you will achieve the first three things on that list but an independent owner/operator wears many hats.
Since I am not an owner operator right now I look at everything these guys post on here. There is alot of information here. It scares me to death to read posts by someone who has never driven. Just learning the driving part is a chore. Then learning the industry. Then the different types of freight, the lanes, the rates, the cost of operation and the pitfalls to avoid. Then you have the regulations, equipment breakdowns and maintenance, the taxes, business management, the liability and the paperwork. It isn't that you can't make it, many do. I can't imagine this economy being fogiving enough to allow many mistakes. Even seasoned veterans make mistakes. Even with my past experience, extensive research, lack of job opporntunities and burning desire to smell that smoke I find myself wondering if it is a good investment in the present economy.Grijon, BigBadBill and Jarhed1964 Thank this.
