So based on what you have seen in dry bulk, is it possible to make between 55,000-60,000 per year with Bulkmatic? I hear only good things about them. I think based on the post from Doubledragon5 that dosen't sound possible.

It is possible, but, since there is no central dispatch there you get what they give you, yes there is good paying loads and there is also 45.00 loads.
Best of luck,, when do go to B.U.? -
I will be starting this Monday. Two weeks of training with another driver and then 6 days of class at Bulkmatic University. Even though there is no much B.S. in management, I hope i didn't make a mistake by leaving my $820.00 a week take home behind. I know however, I will be happier just having to worry about myself and no one else.

I can't speak for Bulkmatic because I never worked for them, but I know how the bulk trucking industry works. There are some cheap loads. They tend to be in earth products{Sand, clay, etc} and by product{Soda Ash, Fly Ash}. I don't know about food grade because I never hauled it. When the company I worked for, Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, closed the doors in the mid 90's a friend who worked there with me went to work for A & R Transport hauling mostly plastic pellets. He got paid on a percentage and was making mid 50's then. That was a little more than we were making as company drivers working under a union contract with CLTL. You will also see a lot less turnover in bulk trucking. The ones who don't like it, they usually get out pretty quick. The ones who stay usually become lifers. In my opinion, $820 a week aint much for a job with those hours and responsibilities. How much is your "stress factor" and "mental health" worth. Good luck with Bulkmatic.

Here's something to think about when percentage comes into play. How do you know for sure the customer is paying the amount your company says they are paying? When I was in the military we had to move a special bulldozer from MD to UT. The contract went out for a little over $10,000. I saw it. The driver came in and was an O/O and I made the statement to him "you're making good money on this one". He said not really and I said you're not after we paid $10,000 for the contract. He flipped out. His company told him the contract was no where near that and he was making about $1500. I accidently lost a copy of that contract. It must of fell out of my uniform when I brought the dozer to him. I never saw or heard from him again.

The paperwork should indicate the weight of the product being picked up or delivered. I can then verify the weight by going over the scales. I can then use that to calculate my rate of pay. -
You will get statements at the end of the week telling what the load paid and what your 24% of that load is. Now weither the actual total load pay amount is correct, you will never know.
