Maybe the white sheets are to be used as "Surrender Flags" when we get pulled into the coop for an L1?......:biggrin_2556:

Boy, it has been a while since I have heard that one! White sheets! HA!

You are right, that belongs on the bulletin board in the truck stop with the one about calling the Federal Marshals, getting 15 minutes to catch up your log, etc.

well it has been awhile for both of us--and yes the federal marshll thing gets old--BUT--if told by the right older driver to the right younger one--the white Sheet thing can be a great prank---but anyway

I had HEARD from old timers that white sheets were used since truckers were usually the first on the scene of a bad accident
and that EMTs would use these to cover the injured or deceased.

I always tossed that into the Urban Legend pile and left it at that..
.....if it ain't written in the FMCSA rule book - it ain't a rule.

Surprised that no one has said it yet, but I was always told that it was a requirement because if you had an exhaust leak into the sleeper, it would somehow discolor the sheets after time and you would be able to see there was a problem. Seemed to me like the emissions would have killed you before it would discolor the sheets?

What I am more surprised by is the requirement for bedding in your sleeper, from the posted FMCSA link. Sure, I'd have to think that every driver who sleeps in their bunk would have some sort of bedding, but had no idea it was a requirement. Just seems odd to me that, every time I have been assigned a truck and driven it home to load my stuff into it, I was in violation until I got my blankets in it.
