Have a question for the board. Learning the ropes with log book compliance.....So I have a run that I have to pick up at 6:00 a.m. in the morning. I would prefer to drive down the night before and sleep at my pick up spot which is 5 hours away (it has a great place to sleep right there). Problem is if I do that I think I have a 14 hours of service conflict. Namely If I don't get there by 8:00 pm I don't get ten hours. This seems kind of silly because I'm only driving 5 hours the night before. Is there any exception/clause to allow me to do the drive this way? Otherwise I am stuck leaving at 1:00 am driving straight through and then turning around driving straight back (which I ironically feel is less safe). Thanks in advance.

Using the split sleeper thing might work if you can figure it out. Other than that, you could be backed into the dock the night before and not have to go on duty until they're finished loading you. This works especially well where there is no dock involved.

Lawsuit and spread your story far and wide.

Is there anything DOT can do? We cannot hire a lawyer and any legal aid is mostly for defendants.

I'm not really sure. You could start your own thread so more people will see it. The more of the story you tell, the more likely people will be to respond. It may take a while, so hang around.
