i was wondering for us truck drivers that have sleep apnea, do we have a choice on how to treat it? can we opt to use a oral device to hold your jaw forward or are we forced to only use this #### cpap machine?

It all depends on what is causing the sleep apnea, whether it be a deviated septum, enlarged tonsils, or being overweight for that matter. I had my DOT physical earlier this year and was told that I met the criteria (BMI, Neck circumference, Blood Pressure etc.) for sleep apnea. They only gave me a 3 month card and instructed me to go get a sleep study done.
I started this awesome weight loss program and over the last 4 months I have improve in every area and my sleep is 100 times better. Losing weight was the biggest help for me.
The guy who runs this weight loss program has designed it for truck drivers and it works great. PM if interested.
Hope this helps. -
problem with the oral device and will not approve it is that there is no way to assure compliance

I also had to use the CPAP machine when I was first diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The crazy thing is that I was not tired and I felt like I slept fine. After wearing the machine for 2-3 months I decided that a different approach was needed.
I changed my lifestyle and now meet the criteria for blood pressure and neck circumference. I have lost a lot of weight, but my BMI is still 35.1, so I need to lose 0.2 BMI points in order to meet the criteria for that.
I should be there soon, good luck to all.

NECK CIRCUMFERENCE ?
What the heck does that mean ? I have sleep apnea, my blood pressure is where is suppose to be, and I have NO restrictions on my medical card, What am I missing ?

Neck circumference is one of the ways they think you have sleep apnea. They also go by you BMI. Most people with the BMI are over weight.
I weigh 350 lbs and my neck is 20 inches. I got a nuclear stress test and had blood work done and everything is good. I understand if you have the signs but if you dont this is just discriminating against big people. -
Heres another stupid Question, What is "BMI" ?

It stands for Body Mass Index it mesures how much fat you have.
