You must have 6 months of SAFE driving prior to taking passengers, and only certain family members are allowed.

Whispers - I am so glad you're doing so well!!! I made my appointment for my pre-orientation physical - I'm getting more "upbeat" excited and less "chew-my-nails" worried about my start w/Roehl in August - LOL Is anybody going to be in Ellenwood the beginning of August? How is your downshifting??? And the driving out in the country?? Keep up the posts, please!

**Also - my instructors warned us that nothing would take out 5th wheel grease - that stuff is really something BUT I have found that Shout with Resolve actually took it out - after I scraped the excess off first - LOL (don't know if they will let me put the brand name - other stuff may work too, my apologies if I'm not supposed to put the name here!)

Freebird - the Georgia CDL manual (I studied for my CDL here) contains the info for pre-trip. It sounds pretty much what Whispers is talking about (when in doubt - check it all!!!) In GA, we had to touch the "item" and only point if we couldn't reach it.
I don't know if the link will post or if we're supposed to, but here goes:
    http://www.dds.ga.gov/FormsandManuals/index.aspx
If it doesn't, please do a search for "State of Georgia Motor Vehicles" and when you get to the state's site - click the forms & publications link on the left - you will see it. PS - If you can "alley dock all day long", please clue me in !!!! When I alley dock it takes me all day long!!! :biggrin_2559:

Choo-Choo & Short Rookie - goRoehl.net is the company website and there is a page that asks for your zip code and will tell you if they are hiring in that area. The website also goes over the rider program - but I believe as the other poster stated above, it is limited - spouse, I am sure of, maybe immediate family, but definitely not unrelated "significant others."

Good luck to all of you - I did a lot of research and we had a lot of recruiters come in; Roehl didn't come to our class (funny because they have the terminal in Ellenwood, GA). This industry is new to me, most of the info and the questions to think about I got from doing research on this board. :biggrin_255:

Again, if I was not supposed to post the links, my apologies!:biggrin_25524:

Well, I will only be here until Friday afternoon as my final out is that morning. I will be taking off to Alabama to be with the wife and kids for my anniversary on Sunday and then off to Marshfield the following Saturday night! I have plenty of info on the Honor Program. That is what I am going through with. If you have any questions, let me know!!

Yeah they give you an abbreviated list of what to touch on for pre trip inspections. It has the key parts that you need to mention but you have to go into detail. For example on the list it says steering linkage you have to name the pitman arm, drag link, upper steering arm lower steering arm tie rod all connected with ball joints secured with castle nuts and cater pins. Tandem Stoppers haven't been mentioned as a matter of fact they only talk about sliding tandems but you don't actually do it in school once you go out with your trainer you may have an opportunity to slide them.

I'm not sure I'll pm you with my recruiter's email address and you can ask her.

    LKat,

Your link worked for me and thank you very much. :biggrin_25514:

The secret to alley docking all day long is simple, be really bad at it at first and struggle like crazy till you just get it. That's what happened to me. I was the last in my class to get it but I never gave up. On the last day of practice before being tested it rained and everyone in my class ran to the shop. I guess they thought they'd melt or something. Not me though, I took the opportunity to practice and that's what I did for over an hour, all by myself, uninterrupted. I was determined I was gonna get it and my cdl.

:biggrin_25514:Looks like everything is going A-OK so far in the process. I am signed up to start school in Marshfield on Aug 6. Anyone else out there starting that week? A little nervous but looking forward to a new career and as far as I can see right now, Roehl is the best place to start it. Waiting right now may be the hardest part......I hope. Any advice for what to do in the meantime? Any idea as to where can I get a manual or resources for studying in advance? Also, how much are we expected to know on the front end before we get there? Thanks for all advice and help!

:biggrin_25520:HEY WHISPERS, your daily 'diary' and updates are extremely valuable and I for one, really want to express a sincere thanks to you for taking the time to do it. Your info and advice is wonderful - especially for this soon to be newbie! It gives me/us great insight as to what to expect.....calms the nerves a bit! I look forward to reading more and wish you the very best for the rest of school and beyond. THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH!!!!!!

    Hey all,
Newbe here. Was thinking of going to swift as I thought I could live practically anywhere...but then yesterday I saw a lot of bad press about em. Then I saw Roehls info on here. Interesting stuff. I like their 7 on 4 off 7 on 3 off (I take it, that repeats over and over...7/7 7/3 7/4 7/3?).

Im just trying to come up with questions. Right now Im in WY but Im hoping to move to MN (especially if I get this job, I will)...and to be part of that Homeplus program...I have to live within 150 miles of their terminal...so that limits where I can live sort of (woudl rather live in northern MN...so I might find a spot in Brainerd...they said thatll work).

Im just concerned about pay...if I do the 7/4 7/3...what is the average pay for that? I know it depends on miles...but Im not sure what miles to expect either. Is that considered full time? are you even guaranteed miles?

How long is their training, total, before you can be back home and working from there? from first day of class to being back at home.

Someone mentioned miles get low during the winter....how low? lol.

I really like this site...I think I will be using it daily.

Finally...what about their trucks? Do they pretty much give you a truck to use or do you slip-seat?

    Ryan

  11. they do have a rider program. After six months of accident free driving, you can pay like $20 a month to take your wife or children. No one else is allowed. Can't take parents, girlfriends, nephews ect. I would like to take my father, but can't. My 11 year old is looking forward to going out with me.
