very good! this bears repeating....
A big part of it in MY OPINION is the degradation of society in general.
In an age where a lot of kids are coddled and catered too, and parents want to be 'friends' instead of parents, it isn't hard to see why some behave the way they do.
they haven't been taught to own up to their mistakes, that they aren't FIRST, it's all ME ME ME.
This ain't just trucking folks, take a look around in general.....LaBubba, Tazz, Logan76 and 1 other person Thank this. -
It goes to their head! Like for example swift calls their school an "ACADEMY" like its a law enforcement academy! The drivers like yourself as well as my dad who is a 20+ year vet know more about these rookies who dont know nothing but just what their mentor taught him. Each mentor is different, some only have a 1 or 2 experience driving themselves and they dont know much either. I will say there is NO driver that can say they "know it all" thats because you learn something NEW everyday!

Ive noticed the TTR has turned into somewhat of a controversial soap opera. I will from now call TTR "The Trucks and the Restless"

I wish I could have trained and obtained my cdl the "old way" instead of going to a school. However, I was unable to find anyone locally who even owned their own truck and was willing to train. Also, I couldn't afford a local school so I had to use driver solutions and did some time at C1 in Fort Wayne.
I don't regret going there and I am proud of what I accomplished. I do wish I could have gotten more road time because I only drove the truck on the road 4 times(including the state cdl test). I passed the 2nd time I went to take it. The first time I said the wrong psi for the last step of the 4 pt.
I would NEVER presume to be better than anyone because I went to "school" to be a driver. I read in an earlier post that school only prepares you how to pass the test and I would say that is exactly right. However, my road instructor was comfortable enough with me the last time I was out he let drive and do things they aren't allowed to let students do(i.e. drive bobtail).
I love hearing stories from people who have been there and done that and I know there will be plenty of them so I look forward to finally heading out with my company trainer to get my feet wet. -
A big part of it is just the fact that people today have been taught to reward mediocrity, and have been coddled since birth. Given everything they ever wanted and told that they are the best even when they suck in reality. There are some members here that prove that fact.Wargames Thanks this. -
I went to a martial arts tournament years ago, and this older fella vs youngster. Well the older fella had a job digging graves in a grave yard. He was from Rockford, Illinois. but the funny thing here is, He dug the graves, with a Pick, and shovel. No Machines. He put this younger guy down in seconds. This man was unbelievably strong.

Our local cemetery man does them by hand as well; he doesn't like how the excavators tear up the surrounding turf. (Saves the cemetery a few bucks as well)Wargames Thanks this.

Good post!!
I didn't go to a truck driving school either, but then again, I grew up on a farm and started driving tractors at the age of 5. When I started driving semi, I was taken out 3 times to be shown how the truck operated,(I drove for a John Deere dealer.), then I got my chauffer's license, age 21, before CDLs, and was handed the keys and told not to screw up.
I think it's tougher to get started now days because insurance companies have alot to say about how old drivers have to be. But then again, I've been around some new drivers and after seeing what their instructors taught them, the instructors need to go back to school....... I will say this though, the trucks nowdays are easier to drive, anti lock brakes, auto transmissions, air ride, power steering.
I know that there are some old school drivers out there full of BS, but the same goes with some new ones. I've been doing this for 23 years and still learn something new everyday I get behind the wheel. -
It's not really a matter of who's better, it's more akin to an initiation.

Seriously tho folks, you;re coming into our house here. There are rules and expectations. Nobody's gonna move the furniture or redecorate to please you. It's up to you to fit in, 'cause nobody owes you jack.
Personally, I'd bet most of you will do fine.Wargames and panhandlepat Thank this.
