Ok have been checking this site out for a few weeks now. and inspite of what i have read here i am still interested in the idea of becomeing a trucker.:biggrin_2551: Yes I am a bit crazy I believe that is part of the job requirement:biggrin_25525:.

I reside in vermont and am overwhelmed with the amount of info on this forum. but after closely looking things over believe this to be a good place to start. I am thinking of the best route to go. I know private schooling gives me the best options, there is no "community college programs in my area" I made too much money last year for grants. but still too broke to come up with $ 5k.

ARE there any companies that will sponsor you to a local school?
are there really any good starting comanies? not just a mill or 6mo trainers
or is it pretty much a cr@# shoot wherever you go?

not to many major players out here I am considering the following companys.
    1. Conway
    2. Knight (squire)
    3.Prime
    4.Stevens
    5. Swift.

Other maybees are WEbster Trucking, fedex freight,

I understand paying your dues But not looking to be abbused just want an honest pay for an honest day, or 14-21 :biggrin_2559:
any way thanks to everyone who has posted to this forum and provided some usefull info. This is why I decided to stop lurking and join up.

theres a few companys that have their own school and will hire you right after, then they take so much out of your check and your kinda stuck working there for a certain time frame.alot if not most will not hire you without actual driving experience.i have 15 years experience but its been 12 years since ive driven, and one by one each company has told me i have to go back to school, then most want at least 3-6 months otr experience.not to give them a plug but cr england has their school right now for $1395 (usually $2995) im going there mon for their refresher school $50 and to get some experience back under my belt good luck to u

Actually I found this thread looking for info on Squire. They are a division of Knight?

It seems like Knight is one of the worst companies from what I hear. Should Squire be avoided?

Living in VT will limit your job opportunities.

It cost nothing to make some phone calls, and make sure you can get hired after getting a cdl.
