For a 2000 model year truck, Cat produced 2 versions of a 3406E in 1999.
The 14.6 Liter 3406 had a serial number prefix of "2WS".
The 15.8 Liter version had a serial number prefix of " 1MM"

Thanks for that info. I called freightliner and they said it was a 15.8 3406e. Its got an 18 speed behind it. The reason I was so curious about it is because its by far the strongest pulling truck I've driven.

I was surely surprised to see a big cat and an 18 speed in a freightshaker.... When the bossman told me to get in the truck I figured it would be a detroit and a 10 speed but I said what the hell, the truck has a lot of chrome and chicken lights and custom paint ill give it a shot but I have enjoyed the heck out of it

If it is only rated at 490hp it is NOT a 15.8L engine they were almost all 600hp with the occasional 575hp multi-torque thrown in there. Did they give you a serial number prefix when you called about it. Just because it has an 18spd doesn't prove anything.
