Intermitent Whisle for 7-9 sec , happens every 25-35 minn even at idle (Cummins ISX)

    Hello , my truck start to have some whistle noise , sound's like a turbo whistle , very melodious that ends in 6-8 sec .I drive the truck on cruise, flat terrain without forcing engine and when happens look like has nothing to do with acceleration , engine or turbo , is just an independent whistle, it happens also at idle with the truck parked . First is a strong melodious wishle and after 3-4 sec the noise is diminishing until it ends silent in 7-8 sec. I am almost sure that is coming from exhaust (not sure but i think so ), The truck is a Volvo 770 2001 with a Cummins ISX engine .

    This will probably be your Turbo getting old. Mine did this before I changed it. You can take the boot of the front of it and check for play.

    Check the regulator on your air compressor. Mine came loose and it was the the same thing, real loud even at idle you could hear the turbo spool up and down for 5 to 10 seconds.

    I have a 2005 Volvo 708 wit Cummings 500 ISX..mine does the same thing...we were wondering too exactly what it was. Sounds like turbo spooling but haven't pinpointed it either.
