Well, my trainer tells me that the students who test out, but are rated poorly, tend to get put in to brand new trucks - which all seem to be ProStar+ right now.
He also said ones they don't expect to total their trucks tend to get the used vehicles.
He said that he can't in good conscience rate me low, even though he knows I want a newer truck.

Good driver = POS
Below average driver = New Trk

Say it ain't so! -
His explanation for this is that Werner gets the gubmint kickbacks for taking trainees, and if a trainee totals a truck, they get not only the bonus for the newbie, but Big Brother buys them a new truck.
They want the monies, so they pair new gear with higher risks.
They also would've gotten money from the VA if I'd have chosen to go their apprenticeship route - but I didn't feel it right for them to profit off of my military service. -
Can't argue with that.

I concur. I worked it out, I'm making about $2.08/hr.

Some guys on this forum are worried about Mexican truckers depressing wages; Werner and other Bottom feeder companies have already accomplished that.RERM Thanks this.

Your trainer is talking out the wrong end. Werner gets nothing for wrecked trucks from the government. The truck assignment is totally random, you get what they got. If you know somebody who has a cousin that knows someone else you might be able to get the truck you want. They cycle in the new trucks as needed and if you are in the right place a the right time you may get one. If you are somewhere that they have a lot of used up old ones from people quitting or getting fired then you will get their pos.
I am sure you know this but you would profit from their apprenticeship route as well.BrenYoda883 Thanks this. -
Back in April, terminal in Ga. had none, Allentown had some older ones needing repairs, Colorado had brand new ones. My son was given a rental car and he drove from Ga. with other drivers to Allentown to get their trucks.Between the time he tested out and got the truck repaired it took 2 weeks, recieving only detention pay of $20 per day.5 days later he got the greyhound ride home for hard braking. He's currently working as a roofer for $18 per hour.

2 weeks, recieving only detention pay of $20 per day , funny not what you had posted prior to his getting let go at Werner.
Most likely you will be over on ROOFERS REPORT.com
when he fails at that as well.

Roofer's Report, LOL!
The only roofers in Houston are Mexicans. They do a great job and work for next to nothing.
