float or double clutch

What he said. I like to float most of the time, but it is imparitive that you can shift under many adverse conditions in order maintain constant control of your CMV.

 

DC when testing, float em the rest of the time.

 

I float 99% of the time, but do double clutch when required. I prefer floating because if done correctly and gently it will reduce the chances of breaking a gearbox or diff or tailshaft. I have seen on tailshaft totalled because this guy floated but was ruff and picked up the wrong gear just a newbie and kepted on reving and forcing the gearshift until it went into a gear and then bang.

 

Nah, it wasn't my usual truck, I took some time off and they sent my truck out of town for a long job. They called me up and told me some new guy quit and if I could finish is job.

 

I drove a few times with out a clutch at all. No clutch starting or stoping. Some can figure it out, we had another thread a while ogo, on Clutch went out.

Almost all the time, I only use a clutch to start and back up only.

 

These were the same requirements in Wyoming. I do know drivers that still always double clutch but most I know float.

 

double clutching is just a timing method for newbies. I don't see any point in it unless someone requires it. It seems like on the real old equipment it could sometimes help though. I drove a 1959 once.

My first year driving I only double-clutched for the first 6 months, then my left knee started hurting so I taught myself how to float.
