I've recently run into drivers, who for some reason, can't figure it out when entering a scale and it says, "Maintain __ MPH", twice in the last two weeks I've gotten behind drivers who almost STOP going across these scales on the ramp. Did I miss a memo or something?
\
OK, to clearify it, I'm talking about the preliminary scales on the RAMP, not the ones at the scale house. The ones you cross on the ramp ans THEN they signal you to bypass or go to the scale.
Speed on scales.

Yes but the memo only went out to the morons at the counter in the truckstop telling everyone how much of a badazz they are!
-
pretty hard to maintain that speed when the guy in front gets the red light--
Attack Thanks this. -
true but that's usually not the case
-
Kind of a catch-22; if there is a speed limit and a red light/green light, they're gonna red light you while your steers are in place. Don't see the red, get a ticket, stop hard and break the scale, get a ticket. I'll stop on the scale, and if you're behind me - tough! If that 3-4 seconds is going to ruin your day, than you're prepped for it to be ruined anyway.
The Challenger, Treefork and Tazz Thank this. -
Yeah. You might as well assume that somebody is going to practically stop and not maintain speed. And usually somebody on the CB is complaining about it.

In ####### states like OH that are 3 mph yes you are correct. I'm thinking the OP is talking about states that are like 15-20 mph yet these morons #### near stop on the "rolling scales". If I were a DOT and you did that i would pull you around back because you were acting suspicious for being overly cautious by driving so slow and not obeying the signs that clearly state maintain 20 mph across scale.Voyager1968 Thanks this. -
It's a speed limit. You are free to travel at any speed under unless posted minimum. Ok, Speed Racer?

i kinda like the weigh in motion ones--out on the road---saves a lot of time--even if you are close and get pulled in to weigh----it seems quicker

No, the preliminary scales out on the ramp, not the ones at the scale house.
