Tdriver,
I can answer some of those questions,
1. Not from what I have seen.... Two people in my orientation did not make it because they could not get the load securement down.
2. All 48 plus Canada and Mexico.
3. Ez pass and pikepass is what I have in my truck, we as drivers can purchase the pre-pass through Melton for a small monthly charge.
4. Not sure on Youngstown but they would put you on a greyhound to wherever.
5. Not sure
6. Different drivers will tell you different, some say that it is hard others will tell you they are good at it, may be determined by where you live.

Thanks for the post Handy Andy, keep us updated.Do they route you and tell you where to fuel?
-
Yes, they suggest a route and fuel stops... But I am told that if you have a better way they will change your fuel stops to match your route.
-
Yeah,I am with a company now that you route yourself and fuel anywhere in the fuelstop book. I like the freedom. But I would like to flatbed.

Well, I did not make it home in time to see my son graduate but I did spend three days at home due to the holiday.
I just put week number three behind me and it started off about like last week. After picking up on Tuesday I blew a tire and waited three and a half hours on a tire service to get to me, which put me behind on my delivery for the next day. But since then everything has been pretty smooth. When I deliver on Monday I will end up with about 2100 miles which is not bad considering a short week and a breakdown!
I am really surprised on how little they "bother" me on the road. If I forget a macro they let me know, if I have a question they answer it, other than that they let me do what I do.
One thing that I believe is really helpful, especially if you live week to week as I am having to due to changing jobs is that they put 100 dollars on your card every Monday to help with expenses or food or whatever. Just realize that this money will be withheld from the next paycheck minus any reimbursable expenses you have. The 100 is the maximum they will give you until 90 days has passed.
Well that is all that I can think of saying for now, remember if you have any questions I will do my best to answer.WanabeTrucker Thanks this. -
any update

What happen to the updates? I am interested in Melton and was wondering if things are still good.

What about starting pay?

For the guy that was asking if they did orientation in Youngstown yes they do. That's where I did mine. The one heads up I will give to any driver thinking about going to Melton is that they DO NOT preplan at all. That was my only major issue. You might unload and have to wait up to 6 hrs before getting your next load assignment. If you don't have problems with that then you should do good at Melton. They are not bad and like any other trucking company one week can be good miles the next might not. They are fairly good about getting you home as long as you give them 7 days notice.

Hey westernstarfan,do you still work for Melton?
