Okay, so here's another "heard it from a guy" question.

Does Oklahoma mandate that the alignment of a CMV front end be set such that it pulls slightly right?

Here's the basis of the question. An Oklahoma domiciled company tells its drivers that the trucks have to be aligned so they pull slightly right. The supposition is tha if the driver dozes off behind the wheel, the truck will head toward the ditch rather than take out a car passing on the left.

I insist this makes no sense. Tires and brakes are the things DOT seems to be quite interested in. Well, that's where the rubber meets the road. Literally. If a truck is deliberately set so it pulls right, wouldn't that wear out the tires?

Has anyone else heard of this?

Vehicles that are aligned "straight" will automatically turn to the right due to the crown in the road.

How could OK mandate such a thing? Do the guys that do inspections also do front end alignments? What exacly are they checking? Caster, Camber, Toe?

I think the truck driver telling you this has been adding DPF fluid to his coffee.

Here in the North East the vehicle is given a slight pull to the left. We have such a steep crown in our roads that a vehicle from down south will feel as if their alignment is broken.

    You guys crack me up.

I kinda figured it was BS, but the individual who told me this is an experienced driver. Most of the alignment shops I've been to align so there is a slight left pull to account for road crown.
