    Yeah, what's with that? I've run a 53 in and out of NYC many times - and yes, I tuck the tandems for getting around easier.

    Per Section 385 of the Vehicle & Traffic Law, a 53-foot trailer is allowed only limited travel through New York City to reach destinations on Long Island, using the following routes:

    * I-95 - from Bronx/Westchester County line to I-295;
    * I-295 - from I-95 to Throgs Neck Bridge to the Long Island Expressway (I-495)
    * I-495 - from I-295 to Queens/Nassau County line

    53-foot long trailers are not allowed to make pick ups or deliveries in any of the boroughs of New York City.

    Hmmm thats a new one on me...
    as my boss man would say BFD..
    get the freight...which we have NEVER had a problem with deliveries or pickups....Actually had an NYPD officer stop traffic for me once so I could back accross four lanes of traffic in the Bronx...never said a thing about the length of my trailer...and it has a big 53' on each side of it..

    My understanding is that they will let you use a 53 footer in Manhattan with a day cab, but not a sleeper. Know several guys that have been ticketed. The company has always paid it, but now that really doesn't matter. Years ago I got an overlength in D.c> and they paid that. You can get a permit for D.C. but it takes 2 weeks, and when do you ever know what you are doing that far in advance?

    I had a 53' stepdeck last time I was there. I'd have no problem running it, personally, but the guy who owns this truck doesn't want it up there. I'd try to sway his opinion on it, if freight out of there looked more promising than it did.

    Anyone who wont run into a certain city is a #####. My very first run I ran 600 miles to Brooklyn, then thru Queens to Manhattan then drove back thru to NJ to pick up a load. It's not that bad. Hell most the time you can only go 15 mph anyway lol. My question is whats with all the Chinese, Vietnamese or whatever they are? They're everywhere.
