Keep in mind that although this law is on the books, it isn't enforced all that much because to do so would put a big crimp on the local businesses in the area.
Imagine if the city began ticketing every 53' trailer that came into the boroughs?
Then the local businesses would have to run everything in on a 48' trailer or straight trucks...that would mean even more traffic, more headaches, and more $$$$$.
Just realize for your own info that you can still technically be ticketed for bringing a 53' into the boroughs.
I've known drivers that have been issued tickets, but their companies usually paid any fines.
I don't do New York City!

NEWBIES AND NYC, SCRATCH AND DENT PROS. I am lucky we go everywhere except into the Ghetto!Go in early when the buggers are still asleep, drop your load and run out while the traffic is running in. Simple if you you not in a solar powered truck.Things will require expert driving skills like alleys and 4 wheelers parked on the street, but be patient and plan your moves.
ronin Thanks this. -
I wont be doing NYC. Of course, that's only because my company doesn't have any runs that go there. If I was dispatched there, I would go. I guess being new, I'm too dumb to know I'm supposed to be afraid of it.

Then you ask the guy why and he starts babbling about traffic and how you can't get around in a truck and all of the other lameassed excuses that drivers come up with to cover up the fact that most of them are just scared or intimidated by N.Y.C.
I have heard no less than 5 drivers today utter those words and then within a minute or two, complain that they can't seem to "get the miles" they need/want.
If you don't want to run in the northeast, You are eliminating a large portion of the country that you could be "getting miles" in.
Most of these guys that say it's hard to get around in the city are probably driving Volvos or Centurys or some other cookie cutter short hood company nightmare and should have no problem getting around in the northeast and yet I keep hearing drivers say..."I don't run New York City!"
I've run up there a lot over the years and I have been into the city a few times in the last year and have enjoyed the trip each time I've gone in...
Don't be scared kids, It's just another city!Click to expand...
For once I think we agree 100%. I'm from Brooklyn but even then, I learned the ropes pulling a flat into the city one to three times per week. I was paid extra for the 5 boroughs and Nassau county so I ate those runs up - even did swaps in Bloomsburg, Pa on city runs to a job site for three weeks straight. Just my opinion, I always found Boston, Philly, and Pittsburgh substantially harder to navigate than NYC..The Challenger and ronin Thank this. -

Powell-Peralta said: ↑i know there is a thread concerning nyc truck route info, but i feel a solution would be a thread specifically discussing actual nyc route info.
In other words, if someone is going to go to nyc, they would post their destination and someone who really knows the area could post actual, accurate route planning.
For instance if you've never been and you get on I-278, just before the atlantic ave exit, there's the 12'6" (or whatever) sign and that WILL TRIP you up unless you know about it.
My very first night out with a trainer on my first job was to NYC. Then within a week i went into nyc and manhattan. So i really didn't know how bad it "supposedly" is. (which it isn't) i think philly and chicago, among others, are much worse.Click to expand...
But I GAUREENTEE you this if your in a dry van or reefer you better get your booty in the middle lane when you get to the part of 278 that has the balcony over streched out over the right lane...you can stay right in a tanker or a low loaded flat bed as long as you have short stacks but box trailers with hit on the right hand side of the covered right hand laneronin Thanks this. -
i'll run any where as long as ive got proper directions... ive done pickups and deliveries in Queens and Bronx, Chicago along Halstead and in Boston..... Don't Bother me, now i did hate going into the places and i still do but i dont cry about it...
ronin Thanks this. -
NYC is close to the Bendix Diner in NJ. Perhaps you can stop there for some coffee and eggs next time in NYC northern NJ
ronin Thanks this. -
I have no problems doing NYC or Long Island. I like taking loads where people will not go; providing I have decent directions. If not, out goes the map book and phone call to the local police department to get some. I love going to LA and for my favorite: Boston and Miami. Never been to Chi town.
