Greetings from Oregon! Well, at 51 years old I start driving school on June 6th! Looking forward to quite an adventure. Kinda funny, I wanted to drive a truck since I was 14 years old... I guess its never too late LOL. Training with IITR in Medford... Seems like a good place. I guess we'll see!
Greetings!

Hello and welcome!
Hubby and I are moving to Portland OR early part of next year, we would be interested to know what the job situation is there.
He's been OTR for ever, want to run local now, so we are hoping there will be a job there for him : )
Any plans yet who you going to drive for after training? -
I am looking into four companies. While I will start school on June 6th, my wife is considering going team with me. This changes the search for employment a little bit.
A couple of companies for you guys to consider are Gordon and Interstate. I have a friend who worked for interstate distributors and he liked it very much. Gordon runs the I-5 and is mostly regional - western 11 states according to those I have talked to. I'm still new at this and not an authority by any means. The school likes to get as many students to Gordon as they can. Looks like a decent company.
I have to admit that Portland is not one of my more favorite places. Traffic all the time it seems. Not bad to drive through as long as I can see it in my mirrors lol! I am in the Medford area and love the open space!
I'm sure you guys won't have any problem hooking up with the right company. Blessings! -
I'm pretty sure that Interstate don't take newbies, I think its 3 years CDL before they will talk to you.
But they are one of the best out there, as long as you can figure out that gadget they have called drivertech, instead of qualcomm : ) -
You're right on the Interstate thing. They do require experience. So now the list is down to three lol! I have so much to learn and am looking forward to the experience. Thanks!

Welcome BriFar, lots of 411 in here, good luck to you............
BriFar Thanks this. -
Welcome to the wonderful world of trucking where the roads are long, lot lizards are ugly, California laws suck, NY has heavy traffic and this forum is filled with grumpy old truckers who are weather beaten, underpaid, underappreciated, quick fused and willing to shake every inch of intellect they have to make you better. Good luck and drive safe!
BriFar Thanks this.
