There are times when they come in handy, but today's generation (4-wheelers and truckers alike) have become way too dependent on them. 'Nuff said

They are a wonderful tool to have but by no means are more than 80% accurate for truckers esp. in big cities. But for 4 wheelers, I would venture that they are as good as 99.9% of the time.

Technology is getting better with the day so why not rely on it to make your life easier? I'm not saying to depend on the technology for everything but hell is there any sector of our lives that dosent depend on it?

Please let me know when they make a trucker's GPS that works well in the northeast. Jack has a Garmin... and 80% accuracy would be an improvement.

It's great at "recalculating", though. :biggrin_25523:

Have you tried the Rand Mcnally 500 truckers GPS? It's been dead on when ever we used it.I like the speed change ahead warnings, before you enter lower speed zones.

Christensen, Ducks and nckid Thank this.

I have the same. I'm actually updating mine as I type this. Its great for speed warning/ scale warnings etc. Only thing I hate is that this fecking thing can't get the speed right in VA- after few mins it gets annoying "speed warning" :biggrin_25516:

Lets also get rid of the #### cell phones and powersteering. Go back 30 years and do it like the real truckers did.

The younger generation has the advantage here. We have been messing around with these gadgets for quite a while. I use the navigator that comes with my droid. A little understanding about its logic goes along ways. Never had a major problem yet, if it says to do something that doesn't seem right, ignore it, 9 times out of 10 the recalc will be on a better road and it was just taking the shortest distance.

what happen to being able to read a road atlas...GPS is good some of the time, but you should not rely on that to know where you are...Your A #### Trucker for crying out loud....:biggrin_25513:

No, after spending $400 (I think) on the Garmin, he's not prepared to shell out more money. A friend of his has a Rand McNally unit, and she says it's not that great in areas of the northeast, either.

Understand, the Garmin that he has was great in the midwest, south, southeast. But it can be a bear along the northeast corridor. What he really likes about it, though, is that it constantly recalculates his projected arrival times.

What I wanna know is, how do ya'll stand listening to THAT VOICE!!!??? :biggrin_2554::biggrin_25523:

Ya, we've become way too dependent on out tractors and trailers, we should go back to horse and buggy days.
