Seems my husbands company has sent a slew of trucks out DAYS after DOT number was pulled for a minimum of 30 days. Yep... he is now STRANDED. Everytime we talk to the "boss".. we're getting a different story. They had acted like they could get him temporary authority to drive 650 miles home... so I checked into it myself and just found out the real story. (ooohhh he's SO not gonna be happy.) Wanted to have all ducks in a row before I break the news to him.:smt073 Here's my main question.....If i get the company to buy a plane ticket home, what is the best option to ship all of his belongings? He is at a TA in upstate PA. Is there any type of shipping service that would actually go there and box and personally ship his things? I know this would cost, but at this point I don't care. And these company guys know the extent of "redneck" in my guy, so once I call them out I don't believe they will bat an eye at the cost. And if they do, there's enough redneck in this Carolina girl to pay the crooks a visit! Please help before I have to call and break the news......:biggrin_2552: THANK YOU!!! JAN

if he IS at a truck stop, they may have UPS shipping right there, but i would imagine he would have to crate up everything himself. they should have boxes he can buy...have him inquire.

geez, i wish him (and you) well through this...that company of his must be in deep you know what to have had that happen...but to allow the trucks to be on the road...?? almost "smells like" Arrow to me.....

and i'd be leery of a plane ticket home...they may send him home by way of China, Russia, and the UK.....with a stop over in Cleveland...!!

but seriously, a plane ticket..?? maybe a bus, and that is even if they pay the full trip to home, not half way...i simply would NOT TRUST this company......he's been screwed, and to trust them to get him home...??? best do that on your own....

The TA in "upstate PA" must have had this situation before. What would happen to a drivers belongings, if he/she had to be hospitalized or died on the road? They would have to be shipped back to his/her home office or his/her family or friends.

So, I would contact the TA corporate office and ask what they can do to help.

On the right hand side of the front page, you will see where you can plug in the zip code in PA where he is at now and come up with the local chapter of the Red Cross.

Call them and ask for their advice on how to fix this matter.

Now, for getting his belongings home ...

Also, Kinko's which now goes by the name of Fed Ex Office may also be one to go ask for advice in this situation ... find the nearest one to that Pennslvyania location this way ... See if they can go to that TA, pack up all his items and then ship them back to your home.

If your husband is a teamster, then, you may want to see if someone from the union local for that area can go to the TA and pack up her husband's things and ship them back to your home.

I have found that Enterprise is not too wild on one way rentals. They prefer them to be within a few counties of the place where you picked it up and have it returned to the same location.

Assuming you can get the air ticket home, I'd go with the UPS/Fedex suggestion.

Make VERY sure you have your backside covered as to what happens with the truck and load tho. You surely don't want "Abandoned Truck" on your record or to be on the hook for stolen/damaged freight.

While some dead-beat company (like the one the OP's husband is driving for) may try to pull that, it is going to be awfully hard to make it stick when the company doesn't even have the authority to have that freight onboard. If I were the driver and there is the slightest hint of the company trying to screw me over, I would call whomever the freight belongs to (or was brokered by) and let them know the trucking company does not have authority and they have X hours to make other arrangements for their freight before I am leaving it. In fact, I would tell the trucking company to fax me a waiver of responsibility right now or that is exactly what I am going to do.

Jan, myself and a few other members live here in PA. Where is your husband, exactly? We might be able to help directly.

It's obvious the company is a bottom feeder so they're NOT buying your husband or anyone else a plane ticket home. You'll be lucky if they get a Greyhound ticket paid for.
Bobtail to Home Depot/Lowes/building supply store have them cut up half inch plywood and 2x4's and make a crate. Put his belonging's in there, screw the lid on and have it shipped home.
If there was enough fuel in the truck I would bob-tail it home, if not i would weight the cost and time equation to taking the bus home...again the boss isn't coming to the table for this expense.

Where is he and where is home? probably cheaper and easier to just rent a car--put all stuff in it and come home--do the math call the boss--show money difference--then have him pay you UPFRONT

TA in or near North East PA. Company claiming they had no idea DOT number had been pulled on the 25th until today. Does this sound legal? Now they are suggesting cardboard taped over company logo and dot # and they can lease on with another company to get the drivers home. Now if it were authority that were pulled, I can understand. But DOT number pulled? off the road for 30 days. These are the same trucks afterall that were cited with 57 safety violations.

They can do a "trip lease" to get home BUT who in their right mind is going to allow this junk to be leased to them?
Cut your loses, rent a car, take a Greyhound, bob-tail home because this job is a fast track to no where!
