While the truck driver did not park immediately adjacent to the travel lanes, he was still parked on the shoulder of the interstate (only one lane removed from the travel lanes) in an area signed no parking.

One thing to be considered by this accident.

There is absolutely NO REASON for the officer to be exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph.

He has a radio and doing this ENDANGERS people around the scene.

Emergency training and defensive driving for these vehicles instills this.

i know they are doing their jobs--but most of the time i find the police to be more of a danger to their speeding than the general public
i live on a fairly busy street with direct access to downtown --everyday i get a least 4 or more police cars going by at an extremely high rate of speed--i am not trained but some i am sure they have at least 80 mph----i have called and complained --but of course--the answer i got was that the officers are highly trained and can stop within a block--the officer(a captain) i think---even boasted that he had been over 100 mph on a few streets--sooo i couldnt make my point accross----doesnt do much good if you can stop in block after a kid has chased a ball into the street in front of the car

Your reading comprehension seems to be lacking, please quote one post where I am "sticking up for the cop". Pointing out the significant error the truck driver made does not equate to "sticking up for the cop". In fact, I posted that the cause of the accident was the trooper's decision to chase the motorcycle, not the truck driver's decision to park on the shoulder, but the truck driver was still in the wrong and his decision contributed to the trooper's death.

This trooper if chasing the bike violated the states own no chase law. Why was he chasing in the right lane? You cannot expect me to believe at that time of the morning there was alot of traffic... he was driving in the right lane at a high rate of speed and manage to veer enough to slam into a tractor parked a good ways off the travel lane?

    Seems fishy to me.

Seems the officer was not obeying the law.....imagine that. He payed a very stiff penalty though....oh well back to bashing the driver.

It is amazing the differences of opinions stated thus far. I am really hard pressed to have any answer to what happened. By me having a long career as a LEO prior to my vastly shorter driving stint at USA Truck, I have deep concerns from all angles. What I have found that is generally true, is that when a law enforcement agency does not have a public statement as to the cause of the accident within a few days, or announcing that an arrest has been made, then there usually exist a lot of unknowns.
At one time the Crown Vics (yep, the old days)"little black boxes" that would record the last 15-20 seconds (if I remember correctly) of everything going on mechanically with the vehicle prior to a major incident.
I have deep sympathy for the officer's family and have no doubt the truck driver has also experienced great difficulty.
My opinion, let's wait for all the evidence on this one.

went by the spot where this happened today, there is a shoulder wide as a travel lane on the left side 4 lanes of southbound traffic lanes, the exit ramp lane and a shoulder as wide as travel lane next to guard rail, flowers had been placed at point of impact, the point of impact was up the exit ramp lane, this ramp exits off and then does a hard rh loop into rest area, 20 to 25 max in a car and probably slower in a truk for sure, after seeing pictures of impact the trooper was going at a good rate of speed, if he doesnt hit truck he probably flys off exit ramp, the trooper worked this stretch and had to know the ramp into rest area.

with as much travel lanes and shoulders and seeing that the truck was well up the ramp, it makes no sense unless the trooper lost control or had a mechanical failure.

and at the point on the ramp where the flowers were , i did not see any no parking signs. that was as 3:30 pm june 1st

I wonder if the truck had his parking lights on or not?
