Advice Please - Connex 4300-300

sounds like a antenna problem do you have a way to check your antenna

do not key that thing up again or ul pop the finals till this issue has been fixed

 

No he wont pop the finals
He said the coax wasnt new so I would look at R/R to remove that as a possible cause.
If the mount is well used I would check the nylon washer and make sure
it hasnt been crushed and is grounding out the antenna.

Next option would be to return the stick and get a refund or replacement.

The Wilson line of antenna's "USED" to be a favored choice by many
Many still buy them without relizing they are not the same as they were
in early years. Barjan has cut QC on every item they have a hand in
and the Wilson 2K/5K are not worth the $30 most now places ask for them.

 

I had a similar problem. I have a connex 4600 turbo. Audio was kinda garbbled and cutting in and out. almost like talking into a tin can with a string stuck in the bottom of it. I thought it might have been a radio issue so I took it down and put up my Cobra 29 stealth instead. I happened to notice that the SWR was going real high when bouncing down the road. I stopped and hooked up an external meter and did some more checking. I traced it down to a possible break in the coax right at the radio. I temporarily strung a different coax and the problem went away.


I don't know what kind of truck you have but I hate the setup they used in the older petes and the Volvos. This is the setup were they use the CB antennas for the am fm radio also. They run everything through a little box under the dash. Mind you, this box does not like extra power and the 4300-300 will burn it out in a hurry.

Also if the truck is set up with factory cophased antennas then you must run two antennas. Either that or get a single phased coax so that you can run just one antenna.

Single antennas require 50 ohm coax while cophased or dual antennas require two equal length 75 ohm coax.

I had a 4300-300 for a short while, It got ripped off out of my truck in the back in the company yard. Sure wish I had it back.

 

make sure your on AM and not FM or SSB (if it has SSB)..
