Most people don't even know what the placard means. Those that do know, know what they mean know it's not a big deal. Not supposed to have anything running while loading either. But once we are loaded the ground cord comes off & truck is started so you can leave.

You don't smoke around while loading/unloading. Properly done, the gas station you're unloading at shouldn't be open. Because people are idiots around gasoline. That's why I quit doing sevice stations; 2 too close calls due to morons. I figured I could find better ways to die, don't need teenyboppers or some doofus with a hole in his exhaust helping me. Still today scares me to watch folks at the gas pumps.

Fuel tank haulers are well trained on safe handling. Don't worry your head about watching them. Worry about the lady with 6 kids in the car that's fuelling beside you with her attention elsewhere.

You'd be surprised that you do not smell gasoline in the cab. That is if the truck is setup right. We never did. Smoking in the cab, sure some do it. Is it a hazaed no, is it agains't the law yes.

Yeah, I know. That's why I said properly done.

The second incident I had was in the same city about a month later. Near a large downtown hospital. Tanks were between pumps and convenience store. So you kinda "curl" your rig around everything, put out your cones, etc. After he was done at the pump idiot 2 drove his car up onto the sidewalk and around my rig to get to the store entrance. Drove right over the tightfill fitting and snapped it off. Then he stops right there (gas running all over the ground), gets out of the car (left it running) and walks into the store like nothing wrong. I shut off his car and put the keys in my pocket.

This time we had fire dept there and the police. Cop recognized me and joked "Who'd you deck this time". I answered "Nobody yet, but I'm thinking justifiable homicide". Dummy tells officials he didn't realize what I was doing.

Four 10,000 gal tanks in the groud and about 9000 gal on the truck. Imagine if this moron had a hole in his exhaust or a bad plug wire. Idiot was a professor at UNB.:biggrin_25521:

That was my last service station delivery.:biggrin_2552:

Now I have seen some pretty stretched out frames and the cab is pretty far from the trailer but I'm pretty sure it is not 25'!

Do want you want, but I don't think I would go thru a scalehouse with a lit cigarette unless you need the extra inconvience.

could be a urban myth--but crossing the scales--i have my smoke in the ashtray---why poke a sleeping dog
