I will be taking my test this month for my tech license. I already have a radio and need some advice on the best way to install it in my T600. A lot of sites say wire direct to the battery but my Icom's owners manual says thats a no no for big trucks. So for those of you who already run a ham radio whats your advice on the install as far as powering the radio and good antennae performance and anything else that may be of help. Thanks.

I ran my wiring to the batteries on my Icom 207H in my big truck.
I haven't had any problems with my set up in 3 year time I have had it.

Dan do you live in Windsor, MO?

If so, I'm 20 miles north of you.

If your truck is a 12-13.5v system I don't see why not. I run my radios in my car and can't see why a truck would be diffrent ...

Small world isn't it. I live/work on Whiteman.

Even though you're going up for your ham ticket, will you still run on CB? A few of us are always looking for locals to chat with.

if you DON'T go directly to the batteries, you have a much bigger chance of getting a lot of truck related noise in thru the power line. And of course you need to be careful when not at the battery that the source can supply the amperage you need.

Truck batteries to my knowledge are 24 volt and this is why my owners manual says no no.
