I don't know if I'd be that hard on him. He's been pretty determined. He hasn't made alot of good choices with his limited options and experience.
I do know he's just a job move away from being unemployable unless he lands somewhere and spends some time at one job. He must do that no matter what the conditions are.
This is a common story. Spending money for training with no plan of action. No idea what you're getting into. Lied to by training recruiters. Lied to by trucking recruiters. No realist expectations.
Some research and an understanding of what lies ahead is not hard to get with today's technology. Most people don't seem to be willing to spend enough hours reading and researching to understand what they are getting into.
IMHO, you can learn so much more by spending hours on end reading through the information on this forum than asking questions. When you ask questions you get opinions with no way to gauge the person's reliability. If you spend time reading through threads you begin to see the patterns of the people posting and can gauge their credibility.
Reminds me of the saying "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Going to school for a CDL without knowledge of the industry or prospects of a job afterwards is not a plan. It is an idea. Some ideas are good and some are bad. In the process of making a plan you come up with something that has a potential of success or you move on to a new idea. Just my thoughts.Trucknfool and Digit Thank this. -
Whats the matter? Are you jealous cuz I was smart enough to not waste a year of my life working for a bottom feeder company? -
Sounds to me like you are leaving something out, there is no way you cant get a job driving if you are willing to stay out. You got something your not saying.. I dont post alot but this is a joke. Any bozo with a cdl will get a job. Its just the quality of the job you get.....Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Did not get a job in trucking
My friend who I went to trucking school with
is going through hell....siting in truck stops for days
taking home $400 and $500 a week
I am happy USXPRESS did not take me
I would have quit a long time ago -
IMHO, the real problem is new drivers don't do enough research. If they did, they would know what you describe is not all that uncommon. Then they would expect that starting out and not be so disappointed when it happens.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I approve of what goes on, just saying I would expect it based on my research. You have to start somewhere and most of the choices are bad to worse.
If you wait very long before taking a job, many will require a refresher course or want to send you back through school. So it really comes down to picking the lesser of the evils based on the knowledge gained through research and the plan you made.
