Nice to reminisce about the days B4 - 10hr mandatory breaks, and 34 hr resets away from home ...

And spending most of your daytime moving ... and not being forced to sit on some 140 degree asphalt lot till after gaining hours at midnight?

Good for you if you can "suck it up" ... but for me - at these pay rates today ... no thanks.

BTW, my grands grew up with dirt floors and slaughtered live chickens for dinner ... I'll choose to live in the 21st century thank you ...

Well, I'm about a year late on this reply, but better late than never!

My opinion is...if you don't like it, then do something about it. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to deal with this type of problem. Yeah, I realize that some people might be in a tough spot. In this economy, I know how it is. But...you still make the choice to stay with your job. You always have the choice to leave if you don't like it. Who out there is driving for a company that absolutely forces them to deal with uncomfortable temps? Do they have your wife and kids held hostage? Do they have a guard dog in there with you to make sure you don't leave the truck?! Well, do you see my point?

...and BTW, I was that driver being shat on. My record had some blemishes and I had a tough time finding employment. Driving for Gainey(now defunct), I sometimes had 1500 mile weeks expected to keep idle at 15%. Guess what? On those 1500 mile weeks my idle would be 60-70% and I didn't give a flip. Im not going to bake in the sleeper for ANYONE ON THIS PLANET! Period.

Ahh, the good ole days of trucking before AC....
No air conditioning, no air ride suspension, no air ride cabs or seats, bunks that felt like coffins, no power steering, no way to keep in touch with family and friends back home, and so on.
Sorry, but I do not miss the "good old days" as far as equipment goes......
If you use a cell fone, have air ride suspension, power steering, and so on, dont make out like you are still in the stone age. You like it all as much as we all do. If you choose to sweat your butt off in 100 degree plus weather, go for it. Just dont try to make the rest of us look bad by preaching about decades gone by. Disagree at will, then snap a foto of yourself cranking on that starting handle, seeing as starter motors are for wimps too I guess...:biggrin_25513:

"While I agree with the things you've said... many years ago, trucks (generally speaking) didn't abuse their equipment, leave the inside of a truck resembling a biological waste recepticle, or leave trucks/loads abandoned.

To some degree, we've done it to ourselves by allowing shallow end of the gene pool type people to run the trucks, beat them up,"

This is the type of people you get when you treat them like animals.
