Well, to make a very long story short, I am getting back onto the road again, I have been off the road for 2 years, working as a medic.
Since then, i have been diagnosed as a Diabetic, using Glucophage to control my sugar. Am I going to be able to pass a physical with that meds in me or could i still get cleared? Any suggestions before the test, like fast for 12 hours or do not mention Diabetes, etc.

    SLIDER999 Thanks this.

If you have diabetes you can still drive as long as you are not taking injections by needle.

I think that you will be required to take a DOT physical every year instead of every 2 years, beyond that, you should be cleared to drive. Just make sure that you watch your blood sugar level, and carry your medications with you.

I am happy to say that you can drive if you have a insliun pump, you just have to jump through more hoops with the FMCSA:biggrin_25514:, it is about a 6 month waiting for the waiver, it is good for two years even after you get it you still need to keeps up with it, or you could loose it, and I wouldn't want to loose something that I had to work so hard to get.:biggrin_25520: I am getting ready to start looking for a company, I have talk with many of the and was told it would not be a problem, as long as I had my waiver, and could pass a DOT physical, which I have both. The best thing is to keep on top of you diabetes, and you should not have any problems, and DON'T DRIVE IF YOU ARE LOW OR REAL HIGH, IT IS FOR YOU'R SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS.

I have been on a pump for two years, and have had no problems with it. My advise is to test often, I test my about 7 to 8 times a day, and more if I feel like it is low or if it is high. The pump remindes me to check every 2hrs after a blous of insulin, or if it is low it will remind me to check in about 15mins, and if it is high it will remind me to check in a hour. I have tried pills, and shots the pump work the best for me, and I am glad that ther is a waiver for me so I can drive.

YOU WILL ONLY PASS DEPENDING ON THE AOUNT. tHE DRUGS INVOLVED ARE OK AS LONG AS NO INSULIN IS INVOLVED. i HAVE A BS PROBLEM & WORRY ABOUT THE TEST. BS CHANGES, UP & DOWN. TODAY I ORDERED URINE GLUCOSE TESTS. THATS WHAT THEY DO. THEY ARE CHEAP. IT GIVES ME MORE INFO I HOPE HERE'S THE KICKER! DON'T TAKE ASCORBIC ACID. WHY? 1.5 GM & HIGHER CAUSES FALSE NEGATIVE GLUCOSE REACTIONS. THAT MEANS DO NOT TAKE ANTY VITAMIN C FOR 3-7 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST. IT SEEMS YOU CAN INFLUENCE THE TEST IN YOUR FAVOR.
