There is no shortage of drivers. What there is a major shortage of companies willing to pay a drive fair compensation for every thing they go thru on the road, away from family and long hr work days. While the CEO continues to take home 6 or 7 figure incomes every year.

Raise the pay for 1 yr experience to $50,000 a yr and by the time a driver gets 4 yrs experience to $100,000 and see what happens to the supposed driver shortage.

Reports like this perpetuate the myth of a driver shortage. New recruits flock to expensive driving schools to earn their CDL's. With a flock of new, hungry drivers willing to work for any wage, wages stay low. They do the same thing with teachers. Sure, there might be shortages of brand-new, cheap drivers willing to work for any wage, but companies willing to pay a decent wage have no problems finding and keeping drivers.

turbotrucker crunched the number one time something like 3 million CDL's and 1 million Class 8 truckers something like that, but he also said that the reason there is a trucking shortage is because they don't count the drivers in limbo between companies, he said there's no shortage if you count the ones job hopping, and the only reason they do that is the pay is horrible and we are treated like indentured servants.... not a direct quote but the jist
